Performance VC++ .NET vs. VC++ 6.0

4 New Member
I'm very new in VC++ .NET and as I see we have some problems.
I compiled C++ application developed under VC++ 6.0 in VC++ .NET studio.
I see 2 things:
1) executable file is larger
2) decreasing in performance.

I hope that somebody can link me to site(s) with comparison of these two environments. We use only ANSI C++, inlcuding STL an MFC.
Thanks in advance

Greetings! Getting straight to the point, here are the results of my experiment. I've included my comments and questions after them. The timing: (The total time means the sum of each line's drawing time. Time is measured in clock ticks (from QueryPerformanceCounter() API). The processor resolution (QueryPerformanceFrequency()) for my

Is there a reason for (and hopefully a work-around to) the VC++.NET's compiler "flushing" each output file to disk before compiling the next one? I've noticed this in both the 2002 and 2003 releases. The application in question is a normal unmanaged C++ MFC application migrated from VC++ 6. There are many files in the project (250-300+) but...

to All, I'm a newbie in VC++, can anyone tell me about the performance in various Data Structures (eg. Enum, map, list, vector, hash, arrayList)? I would like to know performance on CPU and Memory Usage. eg. Mem usage may involve the mem usage on creating/deleting an element in the structure.

We are migrating from VC++ 6 to VC++ 2003. It is a plain, unmanaged application with both C and C++ source. When running the debug build, even outside the debugger, the memory allocation/deallocation performance appears to be orders of magnitude slower than in VC++ 6. The release build runs fine - no performance problems. We've rewritten some...

Because of historical reasons, I have both C# and C++ managed/unmanaged code mixed together in my class library. But I prefer to port code to C# since it compiles faster and the syntax is much more readable so I can do more in less time. The big question now, will I gain/lose performance, given the fact that I create pure managed code, if...

When calling Enqueue, the internal array may need to be reallocated. My question is by how much? In the old MFC array classes, you could tell MFC how many additional elements to add to the array when it needed to reallocate, which greatly boosted performance relative to adding 1 element at a time. Thanks, Mike Ober.

Hi, In our project we received the still image from camera device. I have using the vc++ wrapper dll to invoke the camera DLL. When I retrieve the still image from vc++ which takes 26 seconds. But the same in c#.net takes 6 seconds. Is there any performance issue between c#.net and vc++?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. ...
