Base class constructors and assignment operators

3 New Member
Would you please tell me that if the Base class constructors and assignment operators are inherited by the derived classes or not.
and any more information that apply.
Thank you.

AFAIK, every member of a base class is inherited except for the constructor, the destructor, the assignment operator and the friends of the base class. However, the default constructor and destructor of the base class are always called, whenever a derived class is created or destroyed, respectively.

Hi I have a rather complicated class for performing matrix operations using complex arithmetic. I have written two classes, CComplexMatrix and CComplexMatrixTemp, and have been attempting to remove unnecessary object copies by converting to the temp class for intermediate operations. The temp class reuses allocated space as is necessary.

I want to write a base class that includes a member function that creates an instance of a derrived class and returns a pointer to it. Problem: The derived class definition has to follow the base class definition. Therefore I can't specify the return type of the function, that returns a pointer to the derived class, because the derived class is not yet known at that point. Hov can I solve this problem? In a nice manner :)

Suppose I have an abstract base class that looks like this: template <typename T> class base { public: // Typedefs typedef double value_type; typedef std::size_t size_type; public: // Assignment operators. virtual base<T>& operator=(const base<T>& rhs) = 0;

Could you tell me how many class members the C++ language synthesizes for a class type? Which members in a class aren't derived from parent classes? I have read the book The C++ Programming Language, but there isn't a detail and complete description on all the class members, aren't they important to class composing? Could you explain the special class behavior in detail? Thank you very much.

This is a pretty specific problem, so I'm not posting the whole program. ( but I can if you really need it ) I have a good understanding of what's wrong, I just can't figure out how to combat it. Basically, I was fooling around with copy constructors, and overloaded assignment operators, and I ran into an array return problem. I made a method to return a character array from a class: class entry {

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM). In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules. He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms. Adolph will...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
