Hi,

Looking for an API that provides directory + file access properties.
There is a lot of ansii functions that returns only the properties of a
file/directory, i'm more interested in security, network sharing access.

See if Boost.Filesyste m has what you need:

http://boost.org/libs/filesystem/doc/index.htm

Otherwise, see the links found here:

Hello, I've been reading up on security in Java Applets and whilst I understand the concept, I can't successfully get my applet to read a file on my local machine. I discovered from http://java.sun.com/sfaq/#read: ----- Sun's appletviewer allows applets to read files that are named on the access control list for reading. The access control list for reading is null by default, in the JDK. You can allow applets to read directories or files...

I'd like to use my Access 2K application to write some text in the file properties of a Windows file. The properties I'm talking about are the properties you see whn you right click on a Windows file and then click on Properites, then the Summary tab. I want to be able to modify the Subject line and the Comments line in particular. I'm hoping someone can tell me how to do this. Thanks, lq

Project: ---------------------------- I am creating a HTTPS File Transfer App using ASP.NET and C#. I am utilizing ActiveDirectory and windows security to manage the permissions. Why reinvent the wheel, right? Everything so far is working well with the Active Directory. The problem I am having is with adding File Permissions to a directory. I am currently using some code courtesy of "Willy Denoyette "

I'm trying to build a filter for a file search where the search will be able to filter out certain files according to certain "file properties", like Owner, Creation Date, etc. MS does this in some Open dialogs, within the dialog, you can click on Tools->Search->Advanced and search for files with specified file properties. Any ideas on how this is done in C#?

I'm looking for a method by which to access Windows files metadata and have not been able to find anything in the standard modules or via Google - what is the standard approach? Shamefully I really do not understand Windows file system - e.g. is properties metadata attached to the file? if I change that metadata do I change the file's hash? how is the metadata structured? or is the "properties" metadata simply derived upon access? ...

I teach a class in MS Access 2003 to college students. I've had some issues with students turning in .mdb files that were created by other students and then only slightly modified to give some convincing argument that they didn't cheat. I know about the "Properties" (which is how I detected the "shared" database in the first place). What I'd like to know is if there is a way I may personally assign an identification alphanumeric to each...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
