You have an error on line 42 of your code.

How do you know its line 42?

a) Please quote context.

b) Since your original post did not contain enough information,
red floyd probably consulted his crystal ball.

The part about quoting wasn't sarcasm. See below for valuable
information.

I'm getting fatal errors when executing code - and my error handler is failing to trap them - so I get no stack backtrace :-( The error I am getting is: "Fatal error: Call to a member function fetchRow() on a non-object." What are the available options here? Am I supposed to check I have a real object whenever I perform

I have a class with overloading operator new. (Because, if an identical object exists, return a pointer to existed object instead of a new pointer) It has no sense (it is dangerous) to allocate an object of that class in stack. So, is there a trick to avoid stack creation of an object of this class? I mean, to take compile-time error instead of runtime. I want to create this class object only in heap. Thanks.

I have a Control derived class. When the parent of the control changes the control's Location property, the stack overflows. I have not found a way to find out what was on the stack when it does overflow. All I know is that the program is either stopped due to an exception at the end of Main or has exited after the Stack Overflow exception. (Both cases are Debug builds running in the debugger.) After a lot of trial and error (mostly...

Dear Group, i have a self written c++-class that is used in many projects from many programmers. The functionality of this class requests, for some reasons, that any instance (object) of this special class MUST be created in the heap with the new-operator. Any instance created locally on the stack should be considered "illegal".

Hi gurus I was reading FAQ "alloca cannot be written portably, and is difficult to implement on machines without a conventional stack." I understand that the standard does not mandate "heap" or "stack" I'm curious to know the implemenations which dont have stack or heap.

We have a stack overflow happening. We are NOT doing any recusion. We do have an object being created in Global that is being handed the Context (which I assume is specific to the request thread). This object does in turn does create several other objects, but therer is no memberwise cloning or deep copies. So, we are at a loss why we are running out of stack so early. Is there a way to monitor the stack size at runtime to see if we can...

Apparently there is a limit to how complex a single header file with a huge class definition in it can be. The source to one of my header files is at a point that it compiles and runs fine, until I add one more line to it, and I then get this compiler error: fatal error C1026: parser stack overflow, program too complex This diagnostic occurred in the compiler generated function 'void My_Class::Dispose(bool)' Has this happened to...

When employing complex UI libs (wx, win32ui, ..) and other extension libs, nice "only Python stack traces" remain a myth. Currently I'm hunting again a rare C-level crash bug of a Python based Windows app with rare user reports - and still in the dark (I get snippets of machine stack traces / screenshots with random "mem. access error" / "python caused the runtime to terminate in an unusual way" / ..) I'd like to hook a kind of quality...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules. He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms. Adolph will...
