You'll have more luck on a DOS specific group.

Hi, I ran the code below on two different versions, 4.0.14 and 4.0.16 respectively, both running RH 7.3 on intel. In version mysql server version 4.0.14 the SELECT privelege suffices for "optimize table", but (seemingly) the server version 4.0.16 requires INSERT as well. Is the INSERT privelege necessary for performing optimize in mysql

I'm having trouble finding the character entity for the French abbreviation for "number" (capital N followed by a small supercript o, period). My references are not listing it. Where would I find an answer to this question (don't find it in the W3C_char_entities document). -- Haines Brown brownh@hartford-hwp.com

I was told in another newsgroup (about XML, I was wondering how to control user input) that most modern browsers empower the designer to cast the user created input to a particular character encoding. This arose in answer to my question about how to control user input. I had complained that I had users who wrote articles in Microsoft Word or WordPerfect and then input that to the web through a textarea box on a form I'd created. I've...

I am porting some of my buffer class code for C++ to C#. This C++ class allocates a block of memory using m_pBuffer=new BYTE; But since the class is also used for pointers for funtions that uses raw MMX and SSE power, the starting pointer MUST be starting at a 16 byte memory boundary. In C++ I allocate more memory than needed, and in a second phase I search for the address that starts on a 16 byte boundary. And I then use that new...

This is one of the first obstacles I encountered when getting started with C++. I found that everybody had their own idea of what a string is. There was std::string, QString, xercesc::XMLString, etc. There are also char, wchar_t, QChar, XMLCh, etc., for character representation. Coming from Java where a String is a String is a String, that was quite a shock. Well, I'm back to looking at this, and it still isn't pretty. I've found...

Hi Guys, I was processing a UTF-16 coded file with BOM and was not aware of the codecs package at first. I wrote the following code: ===== Code 1============================ for i in open("d:\python24\lzjtest.xml", 'r').readlines(): i = i.decode("utf-16") print i ======================================= Output was:

Hi all, I'm trying to resolve what appears to me an inconsistency in the XML 1.0 recommendation involving entities encoding in UTF-16 and the requirement for a byte order mark. Section 4.3.3 has the following text: http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml/#charencoding

Hi everybody, Is there any SIMPLE way to convert from UTF-16 to UTF-32? I may be mixed up, but is it possible that all UTF-16 "code points" that are 16 bits long appear just the same in UTF-32, but with zero padding and hence no real conversion is necessary? If I am completely wrong and some intricate conversion operation needs to take place, can anyone give me some primer on the subject?

I am reading 16 bytes from a BIN file at a time and stroing inside a vector. Vectors are made up of char *. Now when im iterating through the vector im stroring those 16 bytes inside a buffer. My ultimate aim is to store entire BIN file into a SAFEARRAY. But before i need to transfer to a VARIANT. im running a for loop to transfer 16 bytes 1 by1 from buffer to VARIANT. My question is whether variant copies 1 by1 or takes complete 16 bytes...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
