Hello,
I want to try to program a little server.
I already managed it to send a login message to the connected user, but
I wonder how it works to get information about the connection itself?
With this information, I want to close sockets, which are not in use
anymore (because of quitting by the client).
What's the usual way of programming things like that? I mean, which
return value of which command is usually used for things like that?
I'm using C with Linux. 2 1972

Standard C has no sockets. Try comp.unix.progr ammer.

this isnt a C question, but rather a question about how to use
sockets. Try comp.unix.progr ammer, as this is much more ontopic there.

Hi all,
I have a silly question. Is there are simple way to check if the computer
is connected to the Internet? It seems this should be a pretty

Classic situation - I have to process an input stream of unknown length
until a I reach its end (EOF, End Of File). How do I check for EOF? The
input stream can be anything from opened file through sys.stdin to a
network socket. And it's binary and potentially huge (gigabytes), thus

I have a socket configured as TCP and running as a listener. When I
close socket, it doesn't always free up the port immediately. Even
when no connections have been made to it. So when I open the socket
again, the bind fails because the port is still in use. When I
execute the code in "debug" mode, the problem never occurs. When I
