Anonymous Union Member Access

Consider the following structure with a union:

struct shape {
int type;
union {
struct circle c;
struct square s;
struct polydoodle p;
} u;
};

To access the circle member c one would do:

struct circle *c = &sh.u.c;

But is it legit to access union members through the union rather than
through the arm explicitly like:

struct circle *c = &s.u;

?

You'll need a cast, but otherwise it looks alright.
All union members are guaranteed to start at offset
zero.

struct circle *c = (struct circle *) &s.u;

Hi, The program below stores the 5 unsigned ints a, b, c, x and y in an anonymous union, so that they share storage space with state. Additionally x and y share storage space with nums. The main function displays the address of each of the 5 integers twice, first using the member pointer table "members" and then using an instance of myclass. The results are surprising: the values for x and y are incorrect when using the member pointers.

Dear ALL As we know that when we declare the union then we have the size of the union which is the size of the highest data type as in the below case the size should be 4 (For my case and compiler), and it is, what I conclude from the below code union data_type {

Is this a bug with the ms compiler (V7.1)? (It seems so at least.) I get errors when I don't initialize all the const pointer fields of an anonymous union in a struct. Example: //T2.h typedef int Type1; typedef float Type2; struct S1 {

does anyone know of a platform/compiler which will place union elements to not overlap? as in union u { int a; long b; size_t c; }; in my limited experience, writing to any of (a, b, or c) will affect the value read from any other. i understand this is UB, but i'm

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
