Troll Alert: Hello!

This is an obvious troll.
But Ben Pfaff hasn't caught on yet.
Please don't tell Ben.
Just enjoy Ben's attempt to convince the troll that
it shouldn't post tests to the comp.lang.c newsgroup ;-)

I'm sure Ben realizes by now (after the second post by Nomen
Nescio) that at least the second post was a troll of sorts;
and of course the OP wasn't really asking any "question" at
all. Still, I agree with whoever-it-was-earlier who said that
Ben's little spiel is very factual, and pretty effective, and
wouldn't it be nice if that were the *only* thing posted in
off-topic threads from now on?
So I don't care if Ben posts that message in reply to *all*
non-spamming OT posts here. As long as you, ERT, don't post
followups to them, thus making me think there's actual
conversation going on in them. :) I'm a very simple-minded
person, and will ignore any OT-looking subject line unless it
reappears several times on my screen. Which means I waste an
inordinate amount of time reading flamewars, and I didn't
bother to read that "loan Repayment" thread over in acllc-c++
until it was about a dozen responses along... ;-)

Keep up the good work, Ben!

I disagree. It appears to me that Ben knows very well that you're a troll.
In fact, I think most of us do, so you don't need your self-identification
line any more. I may have missed it, but I also don't recall Ben recently
making any attempt to convince you of anything.

I don't care if its bad C++, I really dont. I need to convert from a member function pointer to a "void*" with zero computational overhead. I have the perfect way to do it right here, but i'm having troubles because if the member function pointer i pass to the function is not void with no params, I get a casting error. Any ideas how to do this?

I have a list of n inputs of varying type I wish to read from a file: For example: string string int int double double int int int double ... My input file gives its values on a single line, separated by spaces or tabs. However, only the first k<=n of these values are given. Without knowing beforehand what k is, how do I read these k values to my variables and stop reading when I reach the end of the line?

The reason why I ask is because I am unfamiliar with the idea of templates. It seems like it would be easier if all classes that needed something like template<class T> class Stack { ... } could be done with just some generic superclass, instead of using a template. If this is not the case, does the reason have something to do with

Does anyone know where I can find a good online C programming test? I used Google to search for "C programming test" and found lots of stuff but the first several pages were disappointing.

Hi, I have a feeling that OOP can be done in C also. I have used a structure to hold member variables and function pointers. The structure is used as a class to create new 'objects'. But I hit a problem. How do I access these 'member variables' from the function that is pointed to by the function pointer in the structure. I would really appreciate help with this and a code sample will be wonderful.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules. He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms. Adolph will...
