** Isn't the 'static_cast' operator the same as traditional type
casting? ie, Aren't the following ways of getting b1, b2 the same?
// 'Derived' is derived from 'Base'
Derived* d = new Derived();
Base* b1 = static_cast<Base*>(d);
Base* b2 = (Base*)d; // traditional type casting
Such is my understanding from code samples, my own uses, and this:

This question has probably been asked a million time, but here it comes
again. I want to learn the difference between the three type cast operators:
static_cast, reinterpret_cast, dynamic_cast. A good way to do this is by
example. So I will give an example and please tell me what you think:
I have a base
class A
with a virtual destructor, and a
class B
that is it inherits publicly from A and defines som extra stuff.

Can someone explain how to cast an object to a specific type during runtime?
// This line of code tells me the objects type.
System.Type type = System.Type.GetType("string of the type");
// This line of code compares the objects, but the compiler doesn't like my
casting.
return ((type)object1 <= (type)object2) ? true : false;
The compiler doesn't like my casting of (type)object1 or (type)object2.

This has been bugging me for a while now.
GetType isn't availble for variables decalred as interface types, I have to
DirectCast(somevariable, Object).
In example:
Sub SomeSub(ByVal Dictionary as IDictionary)
If Dictionary is Nothing Then Return
Dim o as Object = DirectCast(Dictionary, Object)

Hi there,
Is there anyone that knows how to do the following?
I have a class A and a class B, that 100% inherits from class A (this means
that I don't have other code in class B, than the Inherit statement).

Why (type*)pointer isn't equal to *(type**)pointer,
In the code snippet, it shows that:
(int *) == (int **) ,
(int *) != (*(int **)) .
Does type-casting change the address? or doesn't type-casting do
anything?

I have code below and it works properly but when I'm compiling it with
"--pedantic" flag, GCC(3.4.2) shows such warning: "ISO C forbids
casting nonscalar to the same type". How can I change this code to get
rid of this warning?
/*parameters is void* type*/
struct params p = ( struct params )*( ( struct params * )parameters );

Hi all,
If I derive a class from another one because I need a few extra
features, is there a way to promote the base class to the derived one
without having to make copies of all attributes?
class Derived (Base):
def __init__ (self, base_object):
# ( copy all attributes )

Are there any important differences between the following two ways to
convert to a type?... where 'important differences' means something more
profound than a simple syntax preference of the developer.
x = someObject as MySpecificType;
x = (MySpecificType) someObject;
Thanks.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
