Funny locale problem

Hi!

My problem looks like this:

#include <locale>
#include <iostream>

int main(int argc, char* argv[])
{
std::locale::gl obal( std::locale( "deu" ) );
std::cout.imbue ( std::locale() );
std::cout << 1000.4 << " " << 0.4 << std::endl;
return 0;
}

This is MS VC++ 7.1 here (this explains the "deu" locale).

Output is:

1,000.4 0,4

Now, this is confusing! I really expected

1.000,4 0,4

in german locale.

Any suggestions?

Regards,
M. Kluwe

When I type the following code in the interactive python shell, I get 'UTF-8'; but if I put the code into a Python script and run the script - in the same terminal on my Linux box in which I opened the python shell before -, I get 'ANSI_X3.4-1968'. How does that come? Thanks in advance for your answers! Nuff.

Hi, since my previous post <455440ad$0$30326$9b4e6d93@newsspool1.arcor-online.netis still unanswered I'd like to rephrase my question. In order to read/write a wstring in UTF-8 encoding it is *not* sufficient to imbue the stream with a locale like "de_DE.UTF-8". Doing so only takes care of facets of decimal numbers and the like. Rather, one has to call locale::global("de_DE.UTF-8"). Is this behaviour conforming to the standard? And if...

I've found just today, that if the regional language settings are changed at the point of where I instantiate the DataSet an error is thrown of: "Cannot add a DataRelation or Constraint that has different Locale or CaseSensitive settings between its parent and child tables." The particular dataset in question contains 4 tables. All state that the locale is "English (United States)" A few...

I will report a snippet from http://php.net/setlocale I spent about 2 seconds before thinking: can it really be? I mean, is there no way to set locale info per thread? And after a brief web search I came up with this keyword: _configthreadlocale Read more at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library//26c0tb7x(VS.80).aspx (beware, this page is very slow or their servers are anyway). Looks like this function exists since Windows 95 and...

Hello, I hope someone can illuminate this situation for me. Here's the nutshell: 1. On start I call locale.setlocale(locale.LC_ALL,''), the getlocale. 2. If this returns "C" or anything without 'utf8' in it, then things start to go downhill: 2a. The app assumes unicode objects internally. i.e. Whenever there is

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
