Consider this: being an efficient programmer is not the same as writing
efficient code. I would strongly recommend getting a good book on C++
(like "Accelerate d C++") and learning the language based on the problems
it solves. Along with a beginner text, get yourself an OOD book which
might even change how you approach solving problems. There are many good
books on those subjects (and they are related, of course). Check out www.accu.org for their book review section.

Thank you sir , but i want to confirm that i have knowledge of only 'c'

Yes, Accelerated C++ would be an excellent choice for you. It's concise, it
doesn't assume any background knowledge, but it also doesn't spend 500 pages
explaining how to program in C (which is what most C++ books do). The fact
that it minimizes coverage of the "C subset" makes it a great choice for C
programmers who are unfamiliar with C++.

What's better about Ruby than Python? I'm sure there's something. What is
it?
This is not a troll. I'm language shopping and I want people's answers. I
don't know beans about Ruby or have any preconceived ideas about it. I have
noticed, however, that every programmer I talk to who's aware of Python is
also talking about Ruby. So it seems that Ruby has the potential to compete
with and displace Python. I'm curious on what basis it...

1. Near the beginning of the document "Unifying types and classes in
Python 2.2" by GvR, which can be found at
http://www.python.org/2.2.2/descrintro.html, the author writes the
following about subclassing a built in type:
---
Here's an example of a simple dict subclass, which provides a "default
value" that is returned when a missing key is requested:
class defaultdict(dict):

Some time ago, I remember reading a discussion about the strengths and
weaknesses of exception handling. One of the weaknesses that was put
forward was that exception handling is inefficient (in the way of CPU
usage), compared to the "normal" practise returning values.
How true is this? Will using using exception handling, in general, be
much less efficient than returning values, or less efficient at all?
Just curious...

When it is being said that, "value types are created on the stack or inline as part of an
object". If a value type is created in an object, and that object is being
called, the value type in that object, is still created on the stack, I
would say, so I don't understand this inline business. Apart from the fact
that it is my understanding that "inline" as it exists in C++ doesn't exist in C#. Could someone please shed some light on this...

Hello,
I have spent ages trawling through Google, looking for information about
global functions in ASP.NET and I'm still not clear about the best way
to go about this (or not).
I am writing a site that will be for members only. They will have to log
in to gain access to any of the pages. I am holding the user information
in an XML file (there will probably never be a large number of user, so
this is efficient enough).

Hi,
I start a new thread about a discussion from yesterday (or for some of us
this morning). It was a not so nice discussion about dynamically removing
controls from a panel or what ever.
It started by an example from me, that was far from complete and with typing
errors, but basically it had the meaning to show that removing controls
reversible was the nicest method.
This was a lets say conclusion (but what is that in a newsgroup) in a...

Recently, I'm interested in writing very efficient code.

there is a sequence { a(0), a(1), ..., a(n-1) } and a very small
positive integer k, write an algorithm without using multiply to

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
