To round off my trilogy of "why"'s about PHP... :) If this subject have been
discussed before, I'd appreciate a pointer to it. I again haven't found it
in a search of the PHP groups.
The PHP manual mentions "overloading"
(http://no.php.net/manual/en/language.oop5.overloading.php), but it isn't
really overloading at all... Not in the sense it's used in other languages
supporting overloading (such as C++ and Java). As one of the...

Hello all,
I'm trying to get a grasp of the difference between specializing a function
template and overloading it. The example below has a primary template, a
specialization and an overload. Note that the overload is identical to the
specialization except, of course, for the missing "template <>".
I don't know if my questions will be a bit too broad or not, but I thought
I'd give it shot... When is overloading preferable to...

Hello everybody,
I'm new to C++ (I have some C background). I've read up on this topic a
few times but it just dosen't seem to be sinking in.
1. Whats the difference between overloading and overriding?
2. When is one preferable to use as opposed to the other?
3. How are virtual functions related to this topic
(overloading/overriding) - a real world example of using virtual
functions would be very much appreciated.

I know function overloading is not supported in C.
I have a few questions about this:
1. Why? is it from technical reasons? if so, which?
2. why wasn't it introduced to the ANSI?
3. Is there any C implementation supporting this feature?
I assume some of you will claim that there is no need in function
overloading, so I would like to know your arguments too.
Thanks,

Hi,
Why can I not overload on just the return type?
Say for example.
public int blah(int x)
{
}

Hi All,
Very recently I had one iteresting question about
overloading. The guy was arguing why we dont have overloading based on
return type. I told him about the reason mentioned in "Thinking in C+
+", which is what if the return type is ignored by the caller.
He then said that the regular overloading places
restrictions - such as same fucntion names, different type or number
of arguments. If the language creators wanted to implement...

kind in any version of PHP?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
