The STL by Plauger, Stepanov, Lee and Musser

I know people have recommended several books, but I don't recall any mention
of the one listed below. I just happened to see it pop up in one of the
Amazaon 'you need this too' adds. I can't imagine it's less than
excellent. Have any of you read it?

P.J. Plauger, Concord, MA
Alexander A. Stepanov
Meng Lee
David R. Musser

With the C++ Standard Template Library (STL), C++ developers have a powerful
toolset for maximizing productivity, software quality, and performance at
the same time. STL provides both a comprehensive set of container classes
and fundamental algorithms to go with them -- a large, systematic, clean,
formally sound, comprehensible, elegant and efficient framework for C++
development. Now, in this long-awaited book, the creators of the C++
Standard Template Library explain it authoritatively and in depth.KEY
TOPICS:Each chapter of The Standard Template Library covers one STL
component, including background, a review of the standard, techniques for
using and implementing the component, and hands-on exercises. Appendices
present lists of reserved names, a detailed glossary of terms and
references, and practical techniques for interfacing the STL with several
leading C++ compilers.MARKE T:For every experienced C++ programmer.

You might want to see the reviews at http://www.accu.org

Of course, YMMV.

Hi all, I want to measure Compiler performance in different C++ abstraction levels on several architectures. I am writing my own benchmark code, implementing the main algorithm I use in my program in different abstraction levels. Now I would like to compare my performance results to a commonly known C++ abstraction benchmark. I think the Stepanov Benchmark would do it, but I can't find it on the web...

Hi, I'm finding myself reinventing the wheel too much in my code (because I don't know all the functions available in the Standard library) and would like to purchase a reference like Plauger's book. Are there any serious incompatiblities with the material in the book and the current C99 standard? I know C99 adds a lot more than the C89 details in the book, but is anything 'removed' or 'changed (such that it acts differently)'?

In another thread, a poster mentioned the Posix ssize_t definition (signed version of size_t). My initial reaction was to wonder what the point of the Posix definition was when ptrdiff_t was already defined as such. I got the idea that ptrdiff_t had to be the same size as size_t from Plauger's "The Standard C Library," where he states "... It is always the signed type that has the same number of bits as the4 unsigned type chosen for...

Does anyone know where I can download the source code to accompany PJ Plauger's book "The Standard C Library"? I find a lot of references for the library, but not the actual source code from the book. Any help would be appreciated! The Grue

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
