I am running Windows 2003 Server on a Dell PowerEdge 6500 server. We use the box primarily as an IIS server. An intermittent error is occuring that hangs the current ASP session (but not the ASP application). The application event log shows the error I've pasted below. This is our only 2003 box; all the other servers in our office are Windows 2000 Server boxes. The IIS application uses a C++ COM component, as well as ADODB for SQL Server access....

We have ported our VB 6 application into VB .NET but are still integrating with a few COM + applications written in VB6 running on our application server (Win 2000 Server). We have the proxies to link to the application server installed but we every now and then get a error when we try to make a call to a component running on the app server. The error message is something like
Object reference not set to an instance of an objec

I have a multi-threaded C# console application that uses WMI
(System.Management namespace) to make RPC calls to several servers (600+ )
and returns ScheduledJobs. The section of my code that performs the query
is contained in a delegate function that I execute via a second thread. On 1
or 2 of the 600+ servers the query hangs. I've tried to use Thread.Join()
coupled with a Thread.Abort() but this does not kill the thread.
Based on...

Hi everyone,
My question is not a technical one. I'm just curious about the future of
Win32 (and Win64) programming. Most of the books about Win32 from MS Press
(like Programming Windows, Programming Applications for Windows, etc.) are
not published anymore. Almost all new articles in the last few years in MSDN
(and MSDN Magazine) are related to .Net. Do Microsoft want to us to write no
Win32 code anymore?
I'm planning to write a...

Okay...one last question. I've pretty much spent the weekend reading
up on .Net, Soap, web services and enough three letter acronyms to
feed the world alphabet soup.
Is it a fair and mostly true statement to say that when programming
Visual C++ using .Net, the .Net stuff basically replaces the Win32
API? I know you can still make a call back to win32 if need be, but
the general idea I gather is that .Net is the new "platform" to sit...

Hi,
Here is the simple check list.
1. First ensure that IIS is running. Type httP://localhost
in your browser and check the result. If No, please
install IIS first.
2. Create one windows application, and ensure that your
VS.net is working properly.:)
3. Now create one ASP.Net application, then tell me what
error your are getting?

I have a problem, mentioned here before, of Session and Application
variables disappearing at one site but not at others or on my development
computer.
The problem is illustrated by an example at
http://www.lamartin.com/dotnet/sessiontestset.aspx, were I set Session,
Application and Cache variables on the first page and then on the second
page view them as the second page is refreshed every five seconds. Before
10 refreshes, the...

I am new to web development.
I published a VS 2008 web page (default.aspx) file (along with its .cs
file), using the "Publish Web Site" feature, to a Windows 2003 server
that has all the .Net Framework versions including 3.5. The web page
does not have any code in the page_load event (in the .cs file)
The default.html version of the same aspx file works fine, but not
default.aspx itself, which produces a "%1 is not a valid Win32...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
