Legal Question regarding Copyright policy

25 New Member
The reason I am asking this is because I am new to programming and would want to know what is right or wrong before it is too late.
We have a software and are looking to make a few changes so that it works as we want it to.
The software consists of all the DLL s but does not have source code(atleast I could not find it).
Now after a lot of research I am confused and I am guessing it can be cleared after knowing the clauses in the license.
The research concluded that I can de-compile the libraries if it meets the terms of the license.
The clauses in the license are as follows:
1) The software consists of all the Dlls mentioned.
2)The use and modification of the Software is allowed for the Licensee and its employees.
3)Software, modified or not, must conspicuously and appropriately quote the following copyright notices:
Copyright @ABC
4)Modification, date and author of any change have to be specified appropriately.
5)Ownership and intellectual property rights in and to the Software remain with Licensor, except for the Third Party Patent Rights. Licensor shall remain free to distribute the Software or modified versions of it under other terms and conditions as those set forth in this Agreement, provided the rights granted herein to the Licensee are not affected.

These are the terms that I am trying to understand (like I said I am new to programming) in order for me to go ahead and De-compile the libraries.
Looking forward for answers.
Thank You in advance

I'm having a difficult time determining how to proceed with protecting an eXtensible Markup Language (XML) I am developing for use with an application written in C#. I'll probably be using Creative Commons as I want to make it possible for others to freely use the markup language while disallowing others to resell or reuse in commercial endeavors. I have no clue how enforceable a Creative Commons Copyright may be when the U.S. Copyright...

I have an issue regarding publishing policy? First I created two dlls with strong name. So this two dlls having different version number. Then i added both assemblies to the gac. These are the version numbers. oldVersion="1.0.1616.31961" newVersion="2.0.1616.31997" I created publishing policy assembly and added to the gac.

Are there any commercial, or otherwise obfuscators for python source code or byte code and what are their relative advantages or disadvantages. I wonder because there are some byte code protection available for java and .NET, although from what i've read these seem to be not comprehensive as protection schemes

I currently have 2 official DB2 Workgroup Edition licenses for my 2 v8 production servers. I also have tech support/software upgrade agreements in place for both servers. I am interested in building a separate backup/test DB2 server upon which I can experiment with impunity. This backup server will not be in production in any way, and the only person who will ever connect to it is me. It will be up and online most if not all of the...

I am starting a small business designing Access databases and have a potential client where several different users would be able to use the same database I have designed. I want to know what I should do to protect myself from unlawful dissemination to other clients within this one group. Is it possible to put a copyright on an individual database or would the customer sign an agreement to say they would be the sole user. Can anyone...

This is not exactly a question on C++ std, rather it is a "metaquestion" on C++ std. The C++ ISO std has a copyright notice saying that "No part of this publication may be reproduced in any form, including an electronic retrieval system, without the prior written permission of ITI." What does this exactly mean? Eg. Suppose I am writing a book on C++. In my book, I will obviously explain only those things that are in the standard (I...

If you are thinking about setting up as an Independent Contractor there are a number of factors you should consider about how that would change the way in which you work. While thinking about this list, I realised a number of the issues will vary greatly from country to country. So I tried to make this advice as general as possible. You should investigate further the legal differences for your country. 1. Contractual Relationship Being an...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
