Running a .NET Framework 4.0 app on Windows XP

8 New Member
I've been developing a timetable generator programme for a few days now, and when I wanted to show it in my school on some Windows XP computer, the following errors showed up:

that was of course a x86 release, and the computer had the .NET Framework 4.0 installed. None of these errors occur when running the x64 version on my Windows 7, or even when running the x86 version under Windows XP SP2 x86 compatibility mode. However, if I run it on ANY Windows XP computer, I get the errors above. Any ideas?

I have developed a service which exposes a COM object. This service is running perfect on Windows 2000 Server and Windows 2000 Professional under the SYSTEM account. When the service is installed on Windows 2003 Server, the application works well, and the COM object can be called just as it's meant to be. The service is however running under the IWAM account (I know strange account to run a service). However, after a while (from...

I have an EXE that I would like to be able to run from either the command-line or as a windows service. Is there a way that I can tell which context the program is running in? Basically, if it runs as a service, I would want it to call ServiceBase.Run (which will then call the execution logic). If it is run at the command-line, I simply want it to run as a normal application.

Hi! I tried to run an ASP.NET-Application (C#) under Windows 2003. The application should create an user in Active Directory and give it a password. The creation of the user works fine, but in the line setting the password, this error occurs: Ein Aufrufziel hat einen Ausnahmefehler verursacht.

Hi guys Just after some opinions/thoughts really. I was with a client yesterday discussing their new web based application that I'm going to be developing. Currently, they already have a Framework1.1 web app running (which I wrote). I was suggesting that I would want to write this new application in VS2005/.net 2.0, and they were happy with that. But, they were wondering how

Hello, I'm trying to run a Python script as a Windows service with a defined shutdown. The script (enigma-client.py) handles the communications with the server in a distributed computing effort and calls a C program (enigma.exe) to do the computations. enigma.exe should save its current state when receiving SIGINT or SIGTERM. This (obviously) works under Unix and also when running the script from the Windows command line and...

I have a Windows 2003 server with a couble of websites in IIS. Every website and virtual directory are set to run .net framework v1.1. The most used of those websites is developed for v1.1 but after some days running rigth, iis suddenly starts running it under v2.0. Although there is not a single virtual directory trying to run v2.0, IIS does want it. I've created an app. pool and add the problematic website inside it, but the issue...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
