Hello!
I'm not sure that this will go to whom it may concern, but I try anyway:
Topic Maps (ISO 13250) are referred to as the "GPS for distributed information” - Anybody who knows about Microsoft have a look into the Topic Maps technolgy, in order to adapt/support/implement it in MSSQL/.NET?
Anybody else in the .NET communityr with relations/experience to this topic?

Hi all,
Isn't it time for an update of the wording in some sections of the
c.l.c. FAQ ? The last update has been in 1999, I think, and quite a bit
that has happened since then should probably be addressed (introduction
of C99 final, for one thing).
Also, it would be a good idea to synchronise the text version with the
freely available HTML and printable versions.

I notice the real reason for not posting "off-topic" here is that the
result will be a long thread on whether the matter is off-topic or not
-- caused by the very people who claim that they don't want to see
off-topic discussions posting off-topic messages complaining about the
lack of topicality! Messages saying *PLONK* are also off-topic, but the
complainers sem to post those a lot as well.
If all of the people who currently complain...

Hi,
Sorry, it's gonna be a bit off-topic but I'm looking for experienced
..NET (c#) developers and I guess there're quite many here.
I'm looking for a topic for my final year project (B.sc). It has to do
with .NET and preferably something with network programming (webservices)
I'd like to learn something interesting and practical as well. Have you
got any ideas?!
Thanks,

Happy holidays everyone!
I know this is off topic but this is a pretty sharp group...
Santa will be bringing me a new wide format monitor which
has lots of room to display windows side by side. The
thought occured to me however that it would be even nicer to
have two independent desktops side by side. Is this or
something like it possible with Windows XP?
(There is support in XP for multiple monitors but not,
as far as I know,...

Hello all;
I apologize for being slightly off topic, but I have great respect for
the knowledge in this group.
I am about to begin developing a .NET application where reliability
(i.e., uptime/availability) is important. It is going to be a
distributed Windows app, which will be controlling some hardware
devices. A nice parallel would be the "Smart Home", where a computer
controls various items within a house - lighting, TV, heat,...

I am writing an application, but I think I may want this applcation to run in
a client/server environment. That is, I want the database reside on server
and the clients request the data from such machines. My considerations
involves, how do I set up a deployment package for such solution? Should it
be set up that my client machines get different code from the server? What if
I am far advanced in my programme, what kind of changes am I...

Over the years I have purchased maybe twenty computers from Dell. They were
very solid many years ago.
In February both my daughter and my wife got new Dells, E521s.
They wouldn't run without warning messages about the Roxio software on them
and the Rosio software wouldn't uninstall with a simple uninstall
(apparently if one clicks change instead of uninstall and follows
directions there, one may be able to effect a complete uninstall);...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development projectplanning, coding, testing, and deploymentwithout human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
