How can I catch all of file notifications happening all over the hard disk?

Dear group,
I need to know what is going on in my hard disk. When ever any file is
being copied or is being deleted or is being opened I should be aware
of. Please note that I want to monitor entire part of hard disk not a
particular file or folder. Is there any solution?

Use System.IO.FileS ystemWatcher component/class. Be aware, that on a busy
system there are some chances of the internal buffer overflow. MSDN
contains detailed decription and examples.

Hi I'm writing a commercial program which must be reliable. It has to do some basic reading and writing to and from files on the hard disk, and also to a floppy. I have foreseen a potential problem. The program may crash unexpectedly while writing to the file. If so, my program should detect this during startup, and then (during startup) probably delete the data added to the file and redo the writing operation.

I don't know how it happened. I have hundreds of hours worth of work invested in a file I foolishly named DB9.mdb. I was intending on renaming the file soon. But I neglected to do so before getting caught up in a new project. When I did, I forgot about the filename I was working under. One day, and I don't know how long ago it was, I deleted db*.mdb and db*.ldb from the development directory as a routine part of disk housekeeping.

Suppose I'm using stdio calls to write to a disk file. One possible error condition is no space on file system or even (in unix environment) a ulimit of 0 bytes. Which calls would be expected to return error codes for such conditions? Would it happen on the writes (fwrite, fprintf, fputs ...), or as they actually write to io buffers, might the errors not occur until the data is flushed or the file is closed?

Good morning at all, i have to implement a server, that every n-seconds (eg. 10sec) sends to other clients, which files and directory has been deleted or modified. i build a n-tree, for each files on harddisk there's a node into n- tree, this solution is not good for large hard disk.. and i can't use inotify (it's forbidden), and only c solutions are accepted without third party software or external calls.

Assumptions I am assuming that you know or are capable of looking up the functions I am to describe here and have some remedial understanding of C programming. FYI Although I have called this article “How to Parse a File in C++”, we are actually mostly lexing a file which is the breaking down of a stream in to its component parts, disregarding the syntax that stream contains. Parsing is actually including the syntax in order to make...

I'm new so bear with me. Is there a way for the catch to fix a problem then start the try over again? For example, I have this console application sync a remote database and it takes hours. Sometimes the link, for no apparent reason will drop and will trigger the catch. I want the catch to wait a minute then start the try over again. Possible? or not? Luke

Hi The company I work for has finally woken up to data security on our field laptops. I'm writing something in C# that will allow remote deletion of sensitive data and I don't believe File.Delete() will be sufficient. Is there anything in .NET that removes any remanence of the file? If it isn't going to be easy, does anyone know of a component that I can hook into to do the dirty work, free of otherwise?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
