I have added an access database into my 2005 desktop project, created a
dataset called ResourcesDataSe t which contains one of each table in the
database using the wizard. The database was automatically copied from its
source directory into my output directory. I connect to it using
Provider=micros oft.jet.oledb.4 .0
One of the tables is called server_id which i dragged from the dataset onto
my form.
Visual studio automatically generated server_idBindin gSource,
server_idTableA dapter, server_idBindin gNavigator and a data grid on my form.
To insert a record I use the following (server_id is a short, server_name is
a string.)
server_idTableA dapter.Insert(s erver_id, server_name);
I test server_idTableA dapter.GetData( ).Rows and find that the row's been
inserted there ok.
After all records are inserted, I call the following believing it's causing
a write to the database.
server_idTableA dapter.Update(r esourcesDataSet .server_id);
Checking the result of this, I'm receiving 0. The data isnt being committed.
If i check watch window for resourcesDataSe t.server_id, Count is only 1 (a
dummy record I entered directly into Access).
resourcesDataSe t.server_id.bas e.Rows.Count is also only 1.
This is the first time Ive ever used these components and the help files
were a bit sketchy.
What SHOULD I be doing please?
A second question.
For the server_id table, for example, I use access 2007 to create an access
2002-2003 mdb database and enter the fields in design mode.
There are 3 fields. ID which is defined as long, server_id which is defined
as an int, and server_name which is defined as a string.
When the database is imported into visual studio, ID becomes an int and
server_id is transposed into a short.
Why is this please?

My app is throwing an exception regarding trying to post a null to a
required field. Examining the datarow in question, I see a valid date
value. The row's state is "added"
I'm relying on an oledbcommandbuilder to supply the missing insert or
update commands. The following shows how I'm creating my components:
Private mdaCertByID As New OleDbDataAdapter 'selects a single cert by ID.
....
mdaCertByID.SelectCommand = New OleDbCommand

Hello,
I have 2 tables with a relationship set up in the dataset with vb
..net. I add a new record to the parent table then edit an existing child
record to have the new parent ID. However when I do the update the changed
parentid in the child table fails to change. No error is given its just that
the change is not written to the Database.
When I step through the records for the child table the one I would expect
to be changed has a row...

I keep getting a concurrency exception the second time I make a change and
attempt to update a dataadapter. It appears this is by design, so there must
be something I can do to avoid it.
Example:
I have a dataadapter that contains one table with one row. I change the
value of the 'FisrtName' column in that row from Jack to John. I call
..update on the dataadapter it goes through fine. Now I change that same
column in that same row...

I imported an Access database, created a dataset, added a
bindingsource; and have been happily coding away - couldn't be easier.
My problems started when I added a column to the database - I can't
find a way to tell Visual Studio to "resync" the imported dataset and
the external DB!
I tried deleting the dataset, Visual Studio just crashed. Attempted to
create another Dataset, discovered it crashed in the middle of an
operation, and...

I'm using OleDb to connect with an Access Database. I have anywhere from
10 to over 100 records that I need to either INSERT if the PK doesn't
exist or UPDATE if the PK does exist, all in a single transaction. Does
anyone have an SQL statement I can throw at it that would accomplish
this?
If I can't figure out how to do it, I'm going to have to send two
discreet SQL commands for each record which will take infinitely longer
than a...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
