I have a system service written in C#.
For some reason it fails to start on our external web server (running a
tightened Windows 2000).
If I try to start the services after logging on, it works great.
The Application event log says in a ".NET Runtime" entry:
"The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( .NET Runtime ) cannot be
found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry
information or message DLL files to display...

We created a Windows Service with C#. The service will start OK on
computers that are a member of a domain, but when we try to start it on a
server that is configured for a workgroup we get the following error in the
event log:
Event ID: 7001
Description: The {Service Name}service depends on the Net Logon service
which failed to start because of the following error:
The service has returned a service-specific error code.

Hi chaps,
I've made a pretty simple service in c# using VS.net. It compiles correctly
and I've followed what little documentation there is to create a setup
project in order to install the service.
When I try to do the install, everything seems to go well apart from right
at the end, it asks me for a account name and a password.
I'm not sure what to give it. I've tried my own account and I've tried

application.
I'm running the service as ServiceAccount.LocalSystem.
But, when it starts the process (using Process.Start) the GUI for the
application doesn't appear - however, I can see the process in the
TaskManager.

a central processing computer via http.
- service B monitors a manifest file on a webserver to see if service A
needs to be updated.
What service B does if it sees their is an update for service A is to
download a new copy of the service A executable, stop service A,
replace the executable with the new copy, and start service B...

I am writing a WCF Service using MSMQ hosted in a Windows Service on Windows
XP. All the required components are installed (.NET3, MSMQ, etc).

I know my windows service works when i run it in debug mode on my dev
machine.
It also works in release mode on my dev machine. But, when I move the
service to
a production server, it exits immediately with a start/stop/nothing to
do error.

Why do I need to rename my project to the service name?
Why do I need to set the "ServiceName" property to my service name?
Why do I need to set a property within my code to the service name?
Are all these required or am I just doing this for consistency purposes?

I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
