EventLog.Delete question

In the EventLog.Delete method, after you delete a log, it says that
you can recreate the log, but then you cannot re-register the
logsources (you had earlier created) (refer to the below notes).
What's the rationale behind this design ? That means that I now have
to have different new logsource names to get my program working.
>From the VS2005 documentation :
<<
This method first deletes the file holding the contents of the log. It
then accesses the registry and removes all the event sources
registered for that log. Even if you recreate the log at a later
point, you will not be able to register the event sources again.
Therefore, applications that previously were able to write entries to
that log using the specified source will not be able to write to the
new log.

I am trying to read the EventLog of different servers on the network. If I run the script in a command line, it works well. But when I try to put the script into the Web server (IIS in Windows 2000) and run from a web browser, it works with my local machine only. I have the following error when I try to access any remote server: CGI Error The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers. The...

I am trying to remove an EventLog I accidentally created (typo) without having to write a program just to delete the log. Is there an easy way in windows to do the same as EventLog.Delete would do? Thanks, Bob Dankert

I am able to create new sources using CreateEventSource. I can call GetEventLogs, I can delete sources, I can see if sources exist BUT, as soon as I try a "WriteEntry", I get an exception: {System.InvalidOperationException} : {System.InvalidOperationException} HelpLink: Nothing InnerException: {System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception}

Hi all I've written a Service application and it must use it's own EventLog. The Service is checking if it is registered as EventLog source, and if not it creates it's own EventLog. Unfortunately the .NET installer program is registering my service as an standard Application EventLog source - making it impossible for my Service to have it's own EventLog (unless I delete the installer created EventLog registry entry after the installation of...

I am trying to write to the EventLog from a WindowsService that I have written, however when I check to see if the Event Log exists (which it does) it fails. Here's the code. if (EventLog.SourceExists(this.szLogName.ToString()) == false) Here are all the iterations of the above that do not work: if (!EventLog.SourceExists(this.szLogName)) if (EventLog.SourceExists(this.szLogName) == false)

Hi, I'm using an user defined EventLog called "Fist Full of Lasers" within a C# service. The Log is created during the installation of the service in which the first entry of the log is written also. This works fine with Windows XPSP2. However, with Vista all entries are written in the Application-Log and not the "Fist Full of Lasers" Log: using System;
