session, objectdatasourc e and formview issue

I have an object.
Theres a get, update, insert (etc) method for this
The Get rturns an IList which I bind to a formview via
objectdatasourc e.

In the get method I store the object in session once I have it, naming
it object+id.
I first check to see if the object is in session and I return that if
it's already cached.
On insert update and delete I clear the objet out of session cache.

With formview there is a problem.
You update something in formview and the control calls the get method
afterwards as it switches to the item template.
With the object cached, the original values show.
The database is correctly updated.

Remove the code caches the object and it works correctly.

Any ideas?

I am passing the whole object instead or parameters in my select and update methods. I can get the updated object if I set UpdateMethod, let ASP.NET autogenerate an update button, and then press update after making changes, but I don't want that update button. How can I get the updated object when the user presses one of my other action buttons?

It would be udeful to be able to get the current on-screen values from a FormView that is databound to an ObjectDataSource by using a callback instead of a postback. For example: public void RaiseCallbackEvent(string eventArgs) { // update the data object with the values currently on screen FormView1.UpdateItem(true); }

I'm using an ObjectDataSource with a stored procedure and am getting the following error when trying to update (ExecuteNonQuery): System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Procedure or Function 'UpdateRegistrant' expects parameter '@EMail', which was not supplied. The field value was null in the database and not changed in the FormView so is null going back into the stored procedure. I'm stumped and would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

I really hope this is not a case of "this silly thing will never work".....lots of time invested in troubleshooting this already. I have created a standard ASP.NET web form (.aspx) with several collections of textboxes prompting for entry into a fairly monolithic database. I decided to create a business object (called Employee) and use the ObjectDataSource to broker data being transmitted between the UI and my Employee object (and...

Hi I have 2 user controls and 1 parent page. One user control contains a Gridview and the other a FormView. When the GridView row Select command is fired it bubbles an event to the parent page with the primary key ID of the row. The parent page sets a property with the ID in the second User control (FormView) . The FormView then Binds to an ObjectDataSource to select the record. I don't understand why the events occur as follows: ...

I want do my insert to a database using a formview bound to an objectdatasource. I also want to upload a file. I'm quite new to and this is just test code but Is there any way I can pass the file as a byte array and manipulate it in my business object. Currently what I have is this, but my byte array in my business object is nothing. It's like it's not passed the file as a stream. I think I am not binding the FileUpload to the...

Hi I've got an update business object method which takes about 80 parameters. I'm getting the 'could not find a non-generic method' error. I know that the ObjectDataSource UpdateParameters matches the business object method signiture. I ran the code below to discover that the InputParameters is in fact a list of bound values in my FormView control, i.e. not the UpdateParameters list. protected void ObjectDataSource_Updating(object...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
