Opinions on latest AMD and Intel processors, is one better suited for development?

Looking to pick up a notebook and wanted query the developer community
for any feedback, sorry if this is off topic.

Does the Intel Core 2 Duo chip offer any advantages to .NET developers?
I remember, it seems like a year or so back when the 64-bit AMD chips
were still new, there was a big deal about 64-bit being supported in
VS.NET 2005.

I've gotten a bit behind on the CPU advancements and what 64-bit
currently means to managed code.

I'm looking at either Intel Core 2 Duo or an AMD Turion 64 x2 for a
notebook computer. I'll be purchasing a model with a non-shared memory
graphics chip.

Does one of these processors beneift over the other form managed code
now? How about in the near term future?

The AMD multi-core chips use a significantly faster communications bus
between cores. Intel uses the FSB while AMD uses an internal cross-bar
system.

One thing you may wish to consider is which CPUs are supported by the
VS2005 profiler, if that's important to you. I believe some of the
profiling has to use quite CPU-specific support, although I'm having
trouble tracking down any documentation on Microsoft's site at present.

We have run into a problem with a few of our clients running Intel Pentium 4 (no hyperthreading) processors. Our web application under tomcat runs 20 - 30% slower on Intel (benchmarks scores are available) than a comparable AMD processor. Our shop uses AMD Athlon processors and we have no such performance problems at all. We have had clients come to our shop to verify that the application is indeed faster here and they always say that it...

Folks, I'm installing DB2 on a brand new IBM xSeries box, which has Intel Xeon processors with EM64T extensions. We are using SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9, and when installed the HOSTTYPE is "x86_64" rather than "i386". I firstly installed DB2 for Intel 32-bit, but when I came to install Fixpack 8 it complained, becuase of the HOSTTYPE. I would have to hack the

Greetings, I am running DB2 Workgroup Edition on an Intel box with two physical CPUs. It is running Windows with hyperthreading. Thus, the operating system thinks it has 4 cpus. I am about to upgrade to another dual CPU box, but this one runs the new dual core chip. So, after hyperthreading, it will look like there are 8 CPUs. Anybody know how DB2 Workgroup Edition will react? Furthermore, will I be in violation of my license?

What would be the C++ compiler producing the fastest code for Windows XP Pro (32-bit)? I have to choose between these two: - Visual C++ 2005 compiler - Intel C++ Compiler 9.0 for Windows My previous experience with older versions of these two compilers told me that Intel code was running faster than MS code. But now that I am about to upgrade, I would lile to pick the one producing the fastest code (things may have changed!).

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
