Hi:
My host will not allow me use a trusted connection or make registry setting,
so I'm stuck trying find a way to hide connection string which will be
stored in web.config file. If I encrypt string externally, can it be used
in it's encrypted form to connect to SQL Server? If I decrypt back to
string for use in connection string during runtime, I have to supply a key.
If I do that, hacker could use key to break encryption. How do I...

hi,
I have a component that uses a database connection.
In the finalizer I dispose the connection because I read in msdn the
following:
"A type must implement Finalize when it uses unmanaged resources such as
file handles or database connections that must be released when the
managed object that uses them is reclaimed."

I have been using variations of the following to determine whether
a functional connection to internet exists. I'm thinking of replacing
it with a simple PING, but I've never seen any code for that. What
is your opinion on the alternative strategy? Have you ever tried it?
On Error GoTo Err_Handler
Dim msXML As Object, strPageContent As String, MyURL As String
10 Set msXML = CreateObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP")
20 MyURL =

I have already asked this, but no one seems to know the answer. Here is the
timeline. I wanted to use the membership/roles functionality in a site. I
got all sorts of errors trying to get this setup on the site through the
admin interface.
So I yanked it out of the application since it did not work. Now everytime
I load the site after changing the application I get this error message. If
I simply refresh the page, everything works...

I am migrating from VB6/Access to Visual Basic and SQL Express. I have
success writing test code on my local machine and am now setting up tests for
deployment to a server. I have installed SQL Express on a Windows 2003
Server. I can connect and create databases on the Remote Server from my
local machine using SQL Management Express, so I know Remote Access is
working.
However, I am unable to connect using a connection string within...

Hi,
I have 7 computers and 5 controllers(no OS) connected to Domain controller.
when I used WMI to query for registry, it take a long time (about 60
minutes) to return the result. if it a controller then there is no WMI and
return a NULL ManagementClass. Does anyone know there is another way to make
it run faster?
protected static ManagementClass ConnectToConfigProv(string host, string
managementClass)

Hi all,
I've developed a mobile application for windows mobile 5.0 that has been in use for a while (1 year and a couple of months). It was developed in visual studios 2005 with a back-end sql server mobile ce database. Until recently I was synching everything thru a com port serial cable. The devices would connect to the computer thru activesync and are able to acquire an internet connection. The sync for the program occurs thru a website...

I am trying to connect to a database with an asp.net page I am using a sql datasource control that has been supplied with visual studio. The Connection string is being stored in the web config file. The error that I am getting is after I have deployed the project and during runtime.
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the...

I'm trying to (programatically) backup and clear the security event log on
the local machine. I can do this manually through the event viewer and I am
logged on as an administrator. I can successfully connect to the local wmi
service. I can step through and list all the log files on the local computer
in a text box so I know I can get an System.Management.ManagementObject that
is the security log.
However when I try to execute the...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
