VS2003 net: Can it be upgraded to .net 2.0 ?

Hi all,

We have the architect version of VS 2003 .net at work. I was looking at the
info on .net 2.0 and it looks like they included a class for the serial
port. Useful stuff for me. Can the 2003 version be upgraded to 2.0 ?

Thanks

VS 2003 is "hard bound" to use .NET 1.1. If you would like to use .NET 2.0,
you have to either use VS 2005 or .NET SDK.

You may also consider the Express versions of Visual Studio
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/)

Hi Rodo,

in addition to what Siva M. has already said, I'd like to note that from the
sales-oriented point of view that yes, you can upgrade your Visual Studio
..NET 2003 to the latest Visual Studio 2005 version.

For pricing information, you can go to:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/howtobuy/

And for a comparison between the different editions that are available:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/pr...e/default.aspx

Hope this helps!

I recently upgraded to Visual Studio.Net 2003. I'm a bit hesitant to remove VS2002.Net in fear of the removal messing up 2003. However, I need the disk space but don't want the hassle of restoring, etc. Has anyone had any experience removing 2002 following a 2003 upgrade? It is Enterprise Developer if that matters. Hi, I've installed vs2005 and then tried to run an 2003 web application under VS2003 and get an IIS 500 error with two event log messages: aspnet_wp.exe could not be started. The error code for the failure is 80004005. This error can be caused when the worker process account has insufficient rights to read the .NET Framework files. Please ensure that the .NET Framework is correctly installed and that the ACLs on the installation...

Could someone who has done it confirm for me that if I install VS2005 final on a computer that already has VS2003 installed, it won't interfere with the existing 2003 installation in any way? Many thanks, -- (O)enone

OK, I'll admit it up front - I just don't get it. Here's our previous VS2003 development model. Developers develop the WS solution on their own workstations, using their own IIS web servers mapped to the local devleopment folder. Project compiles to a subfolder .\bin. To deploy, the asmx page and bin subfolder are copied to the production server. So now I upgrade to VS2005. OK, so except for the name, everything is changed. No more...

Hi, We are working on a scientifical related product which is most sensitive towards mathematical functions (even 7th decimal place chang can cause considereble differences in the output values). We’ve observed that the trignometric functions are behaving differently in Visual C++ 2003 and Visual C++ 2005 versions. We've recently upgraded IDE from VS2003 to VS2005 and compiled the unmanaged vc++ code in both versions. To explain this in...

We have upgraded an ASP.NET solution from VS2003 (.NET 1.1) to VS2005 (.NET 2.0). On rebuilding the solution, no dll appears in the bin folder of the Web site. Is this the usual case for VS2005 solutions? If so, how can a solution be deployed? If not, can anyone suggest what might have happened? Peter

I wrote a C# Windows app using VS2003 to read selected text files and write the data to 3 tables in an Access database. After "upgrading" to VS2005, I tried to add a feature and rebuild - what a can of worms. At this point, the solution builds and runs, but if I open or restore another window, program or application, the app will go to a "Not Responding" status. Sometimes, it writes records, sometimes it doesn't. I'm really not sure...

I have a vb.net web project that was created in vs2003 and uses crystal reports. I no longer have vs2003 but now have vs2005. I was able to use the wizard and the project builds but when I view the controls I get the error, could this be a permissions issue, /LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT/Projectname is not a valid IIS application. Any ideas, thanks. -- Paul G Software engineer.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
