I have created an MDI child form that I am using as a base form in a VB.Net
MDI application. The base MDI child form has a series of menu options on
it. I then use this form to create other MDI child forms (using
inheritance). The problem is that the derived MDI child form's menu options
don't seem to have inherited the functionality from the base form (i.e. the
inherited menu options don't work).
If I place a command button or other...

groovy feature request:
I think comments on COLUMNs should be inherited from the "parent" table when
the "child" table is created. If you make use of inheritance, this would be
a big time saver. I just brings out the sweetness in inheritance. Of
course you should be able to ALTER the COLUMNs later.
While on inheritance....
Does making use of inheritance have a performance penalty? If so, how bad

I want to know why C# doesnt support multiple inheritance? But why we can
inherit multiple interfaces instead? I know this is the rule, but I dont
understand why. Can anyone give me some concrete examples?

I'm converting a c# web application to support page inheritance so that I
can really change the look and feel of my application by only modifying the
..cs that my pages inherit from.
The only recurring problem I'm having is that none of my HtmlInputFile
controls are working after the conversion.
The page inheritance setup is pure vanilla, copied from some examples on the
web. All the fron end stuff is inside a form tag, etc.. But when...

Hi, I read about Master Pages in ASP.Net 2.0 and after implementing some
WinForms Visual Inheritance I tryed it with WebForms (let's say .aspx pages,
my MasterPage does not have a form tag itself so, cannot be called a WebForm
itself, the child pages will implement forms).
I created a Master.aspx page and removed all HTML from it, added some code
to the .aspx.vb file to add controls to my page. Then I created a Child.aspx
and changed the...

In VB 6, the Form_QueryUnload event had an UnloadMode parameter that let me
find out *why* a form is unloading, and then conditionally cancel the event.
In VB.NET, the Closing event passes a CancelEventArgs that lets me cancel
the Close() operation, but is there still any way to find out *why* a form
is closing?
This app as a form that needs to be loaded at startup, closed only at
shutdown, and then Show() / Hide() for the user. If...

Hi, I recently upgraded to VB.net from VB6.. and woah... I feel lost :¬O
One of my reasons for upgrading is I was told that VB.net can do class
inheritance and subclassing easier.
Would someone be so kind as to provide a small demo about classes for some

First, I have ComVisible set to true for the entire assembly.
I have (abstract) base class A.
There are interfaces IA and IAEvents for accessing properties of this object
and exposing events.

We have a class that has a public property that is of type List<T>. FXCop
generates a DoNotExposeGenericLists error, indicating
"System.Collections.Generic.List<Tis a generic collection designed for
performance not inheritance and, therefore, does not contain any virtual
members. The following generic collections are designed for inheritance and
should be exposed instead of System.Collections.Generic.List<T>.

Does anyone know if there are plans to fix the Visual Inheritance problems
for controls that use collections in Visual Studio 2008? I have installed
Beta 2 and it is still not fixed.

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
