solaris/linux admins/rookie_developers that battle with this error are probably all frustrated when it happens. i bet you're also somehow frustrated by this seemingly unsolvable error :-) ...take it easy, it'll go away once u've learned how to play around with a few things on your system and reorganised. i'm particulary a solaris junkie, but linux is my admiration. the issue here is Not the OS/Software, but rather the concept. first of all...

I am trying to create licensing functionality in a .NET application. When the software is licensed then I want it to store this fact somewhere on the user's computer, this way the next time the program is run it will know it is licensed. Does windows provide a secure store for applications to put data such as this? It seems to me that windows could easily provide a store class that would store data in an os protected location...

Hi! I've got a design question related to the combination of the NVI idiom (non-virtual interfaces, ) and popular object-oriented patterns such as Proxy or Decorator, i.e. those which have the basic idea of deriving from a base class and delegating to an object of it at the same time. My problem is that I cannot seem to combine those two techniques in a flawless way. For a very simple, non real life example (for which I shall omit...

Cascading Style Sheet is such a hazard to your privacy. It allows others on the internet to see your monitor and files. It allows them to copy images on your monitor to their computers. It also allows them to copy files from your computer to their computers. It is dangerous. Avoid at all costs. CSS isn't stored in the victim's computer. Instead it is stored in the perpetrator's computer. What it does is it reads everything on the...

Dear all, Can C++/STL/Boost do the vectorized calculation as those in Matlab? For example, in the following code, what I really want to do is to send in a vector of u's. All other parameters such as t, l1, l2, l3, etc. are scalars... But u is a vector.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
