Membership connection string

Hi,

My web application was poitning to a cal instance of Sql 2005.
Connection string setup in the web.config and is working fine.
I know need it to point to a security Database on a remote Sql Server
2005, so the connection string is updated and using ASP.NET
configuration shows me the new settings (I create some new users here).
The problem is, when I attempt to login, my application keeps using the
local Database and not the remote.
Is the connection string cached somewhere?

Any help is appreciated.

Steven

Steven,

When you changed the web.config file, a new instance of your web app
should have been started (assuming that it was already running). The
original instance will still run, until it finishes servicing the current
sessions (I believe it is sessions, not just current requests, I could be
wrong).

The info in web.config is not cached when you change it.

Have you tried restarting the web app?

Hope this helps.

Tried restarting the app from the IDE several times.
We fixed the problem by restarting the IDE. However, I suspect the
ASP.NET Development server was still running and maybe that was the
thing that should be stopped.

Thanks for the help.

Hi I was working fine with create user wizard and the default membership provider. I have now customised the membership provider as per attached web.config. The create user wizard picks up the custom membership provider fine and removes the security question/answer fields as designated in the custom provider. The problem is that when I try to create a new user in the create user wizard by entering the info and pressing the 'create...

Hi, I am currently working on an asp.net 2.0 web site that is a replacement of a classic asp web site. The current web site uses a Commerce Server 2002 database for storing user information. It does not currently use any of the Commerce Server 2002 functionality with the exception of the user authentication features. I have written my replacement application to use a custom login form and custom connection string so that I can use...

Can I use SQLServer 2000 with ASP.NET 2.0 instead of SQLServer 2005, and use the .Net 2.0 Membership functionality? I've setup my Login page, controls, etc., and now it's time to use the Web Site Administration Tool (WAT) but it won't sense my SQLServer 2000 database.

Hi all I'm developing a website with Visual web developer in C#. Everything works fine when testing using ctrl+F5. Also, IIS runs ASP.NET pages without any problems. The problem I'm facing now is that standard ASP.NET membership is not working when not using the visual studio testing webserver. I just get the message that logging in has failed. Any suggestions?

Hello everyone, I am wondering, can the membership provider be changed at runtime? Perhaps the connectionStringName? I would like to use a different database based on the server the site is on. I suppose that a custom provider could be used to accomplish this, is there another way?

I've been playing around with new (for 2.0) membershp functionality. I was able to build a simple login form that secures a directory on a project I built locally on my development desktop. However, when I attempt to follow the same steps on the remote test server (a website I access via filesystem security accross my lan ).. I get the following when I attempt to select the security tab from the administer selection of the login...

Hello All, How to change the default Membership Provider during the runtime? I know I can reference any provider I want, e.g.: provider = Membership.Providers but the question is how to change the default one, so all those new, cool controls can start using the one I want. I can specify the provider for each of those controls, e.g.:

I am creating a web app to be shared amongst companies. Each user's credentials will be in the common ASP.NET membership database. Each company will have their own data base. I need to be able to correlate each user to their company so I know what connection string (which I want to store in the membership database as well) to use to get their data. Please note that my users will not be able to create their own profiles over the web. ...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
