Hi,
I have found many tutorials showing how to access data in an Excel
spreadsheet using a COM object in .net. But, as far as I can tell, this
requires Excel to be installed.
Is there anyway I can access the Excel file without the user needing
Excel?
Thanks,

Hi,
I think it would be possible to write your own "Excel-interpreter" by
binary reading the Excel file, but I would strongly advise against
this.
Otherwise I don't think you can manage this. Even the free .NET interop
assemblies need an original copy of Excel installed.
Good luck,
Alke Wiebenga
PS:
I think OpenOffice is able to import Excel files. OpenOffice code is
Open Source so you could take a look at how they've implemented this..

Hi,
I don;t think so, especially the way you are using it (automation) IF (and
I'm not sure it can be done) you could access it would be using ADO.NET and
OleDb.
Try this approach.

I've got an intranet application that presents a list of files in sort of a
'central repository' web page. Each file is an href in the form <a

When the user clicks on an excel file, it is opening within the browser,
which unforntuntely confuses the heck out of them because the usual
Print/Print Preview menu options are not available. I would like the user

Is there a way to open an OLE DB database from within Access?
I would like to use the Access GUI with its table and query

I have seen several references on how to open an OLE DB
database through VBA/ADO code but I wouldn't know how to go
from there to actually have the database available in the

Hi everyone,
I'm having trouble opening space delimited textfiles in Excel from
Visual Basic.net. I'm able to control, open and modify Excel files

just don't know what I'm doing when I try to open a space delimited

in VBA and going from there, but then I got stuff saying "Name

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
