John,

You can't. AFAIK, that information is not included in the assembly.

Hope this helps.

Hello Nicholas Paldino [.NET/C# MVP],

Assembly version must be always recorded into assembly during compiling,
because when u starting you assembly into new host - the host should determine
which framework version to use.

Information about version could be get via unmanaged code (reading info from
PE), or using Assembly.ImageR untimeVersion

I recomend to use Reflector API to check this. I rekon I can't get this info
via Reflector IDE
BTW, information about FW is available in metadata via ILDASM.

When I click on a class or interface in Reflector, the bottom left of
the screen shows me the assembly and version. Is that not the required
information?

Hello Chris,

That the version of your assembly (that incrementing in each rebuild), not
the .net FW one that was used in building

I opened up my assembly using Lutz Roeder's .NET Reflector. I made sure I was using the latest version, which is v3.4.3.0 When I open the assembly, I get a message saying that a particular method (GetColumns()) in my collection class does not have an implementation. Well, the method is there. I am at a loss as to what the error is...

I'm hoping to develop a build process which only increments the version number of an assembly when either its contents or one of its dependencies has changed. Our assembly structure translates directly to a directory structure, so its pretty easy to see if any given assembly has changed. How can I, from a build script, figure out what other...

I'm wondering if there is an easy way to programmatically determine if an assembly is installed in the GAC. This would be similar to our ability to easily determine if a file exists (File.Exists(path)) - but for an assembly, of a particular version, etc in the GAC. I have googled this and failed to find anything useful. Thanks
