I've created a Windows Service in C# and an installer project for it.
I installed the service using the packaged installer project and the service
was installed correctly and it runs fine.
I've since made some changes to this service.
I then proceded to uninstall it (Add/Remove Programs) to install the new one.
However, the service still shows under Services, but the .exe is gone.
I can't install the new version of the service,...

I'm developing a Windows Service and just added a standard try... catch
exception handler to its OnStart() routine. I would like to know how to
force the service to abort its startup when an exception is encountered. In
my current version, the exception handler logs the exception, but then the
service continues to run. I'd like it to NOT run after logging the
exception.
Thanks!

Hi All,
I have a Windows Service project that contains an "Installer" class that is
used to install and uninstall the service. The installer class (call it
MyServiceInstaller) inherits from System.Configuration.Install.Installer, of
course. The constructor for MyServiceInstaller configures and adds a
ServiceProcessInstaller object and a ServiceInstaller object to the
Installers...

I've developed a .Net Windows Form application and used the Click-Once
Deployment.
In that application I would like to allow the user a click-once method of
uninstalling it.
I do not find an uninstall folder for this application.
How can I programmatically uninstall the application? Perferred language is
Visual Basic.

Hi,
I have developed a windows service in C# and I am using a Visual Studio
2003 installer to install it.
When I am updating the service, I usually stop the service in control
panel, close control panel (if I don't close, the service will often
not properly uninstall), use software uninstallation to remove the
service and install the new version via setup.exe.

I am loading signed assemblies from a network share. The assemblies
are NOT INSTALLED in the GAC as they are part of an enterprise
distributed application implemented as a windows service that loads its
code (*.dlls/assemblies) from a network share. The assemblies are
signed to allow loading given code access security.
I am debugging the windows service but I cannot get it to
release/replace a copy of an old version of the *.dll. I...

How could I have a program uninstall a service and then install a newer
version of the same service? This assumes I've already got the files in the
appropriate directory to be able to install the new version of the service.
TIA - Jeff.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
