grid view sorting and paging

hi all,

am using grid view in asp.net 2.0 . My problem is easy but can't get it to
work.

My grid view id = grdContract and am binding grid view using dataset My
dataset returns 5 columns from sql database and I have auto generate columns
= true for grdContract

grdContract.Dat aSource = ........dataset returned by a function

grdContract.Dat aBind();

Now I want to to enable sorting on each column header and and also allow
paging. Could you please cause I can't get it to work.

Do i need to have template columns instead ?

I used this tutorial to get sorting/paging working in my app:

Look at lesson 3 (DataBinding), around 20 minutes into it.

For some reason when I enable the callback feature of the gridview I still get a page refresh, that is it seems like there is a postback that occurs, not a callback which is just supposed to update not the whole page, but a portion of the page. Strangely enough the URL below http://beta.asp.net/QUICKSTARTV20/aspnet/doc/ctrlref/data/gridview.aspx (VB GridView Paging and Sorting Callbacks example)

I've already posted this in the asp forum, and other asp.net forums on the net with no luck... I've got a data grid, with paging, and sorting allowed. I can find loads of examples, and have previous done this, when generating all the data from my database at run time, progmatically. Now I'm trying to do it through the design editor, using datasets instead of dataviews, etc...

in short, the question is "How do i do custom paging in my asp.net grids" in SQL 2000. if i use default paging and if my db has ~200000 records, then i have to select all the 2 lac records then bind to the grid. whereas i've to show only 50 rows... so if i do custom paging i can implement this in sql2005 using row_number, but how would i simulate this in SQL2000 couple of constraints i have are

I have a grid view that pulls data from a dbf file. I set the Allow Sorting to true and I put my code in the Sorting event. The problem is that I can't get the sorting to work so I wrote some info to a text file to see what is happening. What I found out is that when I clicked on a column to sort it the Sorting function was continuously being called thus causing the Default Application Pool in IIS to stop. Here is the code I am using

In regard to a GridView that must support searching, filtering, sorting, and paging ... There is a tradeoff in performing the sorting and paging in the database versus to creating a CLR sort expression and allowing the GridView to perform the sorting and paging. How do people feel about each option for (1) simple sorts (alphabetical, compound alphabetical)

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
