Combining a Web, Windows Service and Database Setup

At the moment I have three separate setup projects for my C# ASP.NET
application one for the web project, one that uses Custom actions and
some code to create the database and then one which uses Custom Actions
to prompt the user for username and pwd when installing a windows
service. I want to bundle all three into a single install. I'm not sure
if this possible with Visual Studio alone, if it is then does anyone
know of a good online resource for information or give me any tips on
how proceed?
Any help appreciated.

Joe

Hello All, I have been working on this for almost a week now and I haven't anything up my sleeves anymore that I could test in addition or change.... Since I am not sure, if this is a Windows 2003 Server or ADO or ODBC issue, I am posting this on all of the three newsgroups. That's the setup: Windows 2003 Server with IIS and ASP.NET actiavted Access 2002 mdb file (and yes, proper rights are set on TMP paths and path,

I have a need to become familiar with SQL Server 2000 for work. Needless to say I am new to SQL Server any version, but not IT in general. My employer has provided me with the SQL Server 2000 Personal disk from the SQL Server 2000 Enterprise kit as this is reported here on the MSDN web site to be the version that is supported on Windows XP. In fact so many of you kind people confess to having succeeded in doing it. I have tried...

Hi all, I have written a windows service application and setup project to install/deinstall my service. There is a requirement to run one more instance of the same service with different set of configurations and connecting to a different database. Both the services will run on the same box. Is it possible to do that? Someone suggested that there are entries in the windows registry that can be

I have a small windows service which connects to a POP3 server at defined intervals, scans the available messages, extracts the required information and inserts the data into a SQL database. I am assuming that this is not an uncommon piece of software. I want to get an architecture that conforms as closely as possible with the recommendations from Microsoft on developing Windows Services, but to be honest I have found difficultly in...

I have created a Windows service which performs various functions including setting variables in other application objects. When the service runs under Local System account the functionality all works OK, however when service runs under a user account it produces exception errors when trying to set variables in the application objects. I created a .exe test harness which does the same and works OK when run by the same user.

Hello, I'm thinking of creating a Windows service to backup a small enterprise system running on an Oracle database. My idea is to create a Windows service on the main server and also each remote file server, so that the main server can control the entire backup sequence, including the start time, through service-to-service remoting (or with the new WCF). My dilemma basically comes down to using Windows services or plain old EXEs. I don't...

Hi All I would like to install the same Windows Service project on the same server under different names, one for each customer. I have been able to do it but I would like an expert opinion as to whether my solution is robust or whether there is a better way to do it. What I've been trying to do is to create a core project with different extension projects, one for each customer. I wanted to create a different Setup project for each...

With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
