Commercial component: joystick driver controlled by user software

Hello,

I'm look after a commercial joystick driver controlled by my application
(determine the number of axis, determine the number of buttons, transmit
axis values and button values). I thing, the virtual joystick driver
possible is a combination of an joystick or game port minidriver and a
opportunity to control this driver through IOControl or an ActiveX component
etc. which I can order about my application.

Why I look after such comonent is, about the defined DirectInput interface
other applications should be able to get data from my application (process
communication). I thinking, the DirectInput interface is the best
combination with the kind of data, which should be exchange by this
interface. And destination computers where my application will be installed,
dosn't have a real physical joystick.

Do anyone kow such component?

Thanks and best regards,

Hubert

Hello Hermanutz,

Unfortunately, I am not aware of such a device. And, I now find myself with the same need as you.

Maybe if enough of us have the same need, there will be more people familiar with devices, troubleshooting , etc, and thus, more who are able to provide helpful suggestions as this is normally one of the best and most responsive of forums.

Good luck & let me know if something turns up!

Justin

My own searches have proven to be of little help in understanding the implementation of this technology (available since Win98). Any information that you could share on Display Driver Management Layer (DDML) usage would be greatly appreciated. Jim Hubbard

I am new to C#/.NET/DirectX, and could not find a simple example of how to read the X/Y location of the joystick. < YIKES!!! The DirectX.DirectInput is one serious pile of API! > After some futzing around, I came up with the following - which seems to work just fine. I'm looking for a sanity check here, is this a good way to access the joystick? Yeah, yeah, I only look for the first joystick, and there is some hardcoded silliness in...

It should be good to use on all OS systems. - the printer driver should take care of the ease of...

Hello, I'm implementig a C# app in which I need to access to a Joystick. Nowadays I'm using the DirectInput class for getting the actual joystick position, but trhough polling. I would like to do it through event, i.e., when you move the joystick, it send to the app an event or message which you can hand with a handler. The old joystick API has been superseded by DirectInput, and I have read

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
