ascii char set

I'm trying to parse a binary file to help me with some analysis...what
I'd like to do is take a byte of data and display its ascii char value
(37='%', 38='&', etc.).

private void ParseFile(strin g fileName)
{
byte data;

if (File.Exists(fi leName))
{
FileStream stream = new FileStream(file Name, FileMode.Open);
BinaryReader br = new BinaryReader(st ream, Encoding.ASCII) ;

data = br.ReadByte();
// display data
}
}

How can I achieve this?

TIA,
SLC

Just cast to char. Or to convert multiple bytes at a time, use
Encoding.ASCII. GetString().
Or as you've got a BinaryReader, just use BinaryReader.Re adChars().

Hi, I am reading from a serial port from a device which sends over an ascii character. It uses the full extended 256 character set and therefore has non-printing characters too. So what i want to do is convert the input to the associated decimal. I.E ASCII Char 'NUL' will become 0 ASCII Char 'SOH' will become 1

Some knows how to verify an ascii code. I want to verify a char for the list of ascii codes between 64 to 122. Mainly in other words, check a char, look if its in a range of ascii code and output a bool, true or false. thanks D

Hi, I'm a beginner is using C# and .net. I have big legacy files that stores various values (ints, bytes, strings) and want to read them into a C# programme so that I can store them in a database. The files are written by a late 1980's PC Pascal programme, for which I don't have the source code. I've managed to reverse engineer the file format. The strings are stored as Ascii in the file, with the first byte indicating the string...

Hello, For work, I need to write a password filter. The problem is that my C+ + experience is only some practice in school, 10 years ago. I now develop in C# which is completely different to me. But, the password filter needs to be built, so I'm doing my best. First of all, I am creating an xml string that contains both username and password, and then I want to write the ascii values for all characters to a textfile. By using the...

I have the following code section that I thought would strip out all the non-ascii characters from a string after decoding it. Unfortunately the non-ascii characters are still in the string. What am I doing wrong? Dim plainText As String plainText = "t═e" Dim plainTextBytes() As Byte Dim enc As Encoding = Encoding.ASCII plainTextBytes = enc.GetBytes(plainText)

Hi, I'm trying to write a class that can convert ascii to binary and vice versa. I write my class based on this function I've found on internet That works perfectly, but when I try to implement it in my own class it gives me alot of headache, also because I'm totally new to the language. It work only with one character at a time, and if I give a string it just give some weird result.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development projectplanning, coding, testing, and deploymentwithout human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
