This means that access from different threads is synchronized, thus objects
internal state won't be corrupt

This paragraph tells you which memebers of the class is safe to access
simultaneously from different threads. usually these are static members,
readonly properties and methods that calculate their return value based on
their parameters.

Hello all; I'm trying to debug an issue with a java script called, SelectSockets. It appears to be a fairly common one found on the web. I downloaded the SGI Java v1.4.1 installation from SGI's webpage and installed it using SGI's swmgr application. The installation was very straight forward and there were no errors when I installed the package. Then I ran /usr/java2/bin/javac SelectSockets.java to make the SelectSockets.class file.

hi, my multithread application, running under solaris box, is crashing eventually. I tried to spot and substitute functions not "thread safe", but I guess my search wasn't good enough. I have put localtime_r and asctime_r where I was using localtime and asctime. But I didn't find any correspondent _r function to "time".Also, I found that "readdir" is not thread safe. But what about "scandir"? Thanks for any help

Hello everyone, I am a VC++ programmer. When i develop a multi-threaded application in C++, I prefer to use worker thread, so that the main thread and worker thread can communicate using messages.(i will prefer to use PostMessage than SendMessage API in order to avoid any dead locks ) I prefer to post messages to a thread , instead using call back functions(passing pointer to another thread's function.)

In my application I have two threads. Each of them creates a new propertygrid. In the property grid I have a property with a color editor. Whenever i am clicking on the combo box to change the 'Color' in the first thread is fine. Any other thread that tries to modify the color in the property grid throws: "Controls created on one thread cannot be parented to a control on a

Hi, Sorry for a repeated post but i didn't receive an answer and will try to re-phrase my question: How do i close an additional thread from the main thread, if this additional thread is stuck waiting for a blocking operation, eg. if in this additional thread i wait for a Tcp connection: Socket s = tcpListener.AcceptSocket();

I have a second thread, t2, that errors out and will stop. It's status is then "Stopped". I try to start t2 from thread 1, t1, by checking If t2.threadstate = "Stopped" Then t2.start() However, this throws and error: System.Threading.ThreadStateException: Thread is running or terminated; it can not restart.

I thought I need something like this, but it turns out I don't. I'm still interested if this can be done: Can you do a multi-thread "lock", that locks out everything else, all other threads, without explicitly locking out those other threads? For example, can you take a single section of code, without changing any other code at all, and make it so that when it executes, it is the only thing executing?

Hello, i'm trying to program a thread that would be locked (by a mutex) and that would only be unlocked once that a function (generating data) is done. The purpose is to generate data, and unlock the mutex in order to activate the thread once the data is generated. I have to do it this way, i can only call the thread if the data are generated. ******************************************************** step 1: initialize the mutex

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
