Problem with getting a new Message window from another thread

Hi ,

I'm working on a smart client application. In one of my forms I have a
socket instance which listens for any messages from others and there
are some other windows forms too.

when the sockets recievs any messages it should pop a message about it
even the user is actively working on some other Form other than the
form which has the socket instatnce.(whic h is handled through a
delegate in the Form)

my problem is when I have a MessageBoz.Show ("Message") in the delegate,
to show the incomming message , inworks fine.
But what I need is a customized Message window other than the message
window given by MessageBox.Show ();
When I tried to use one of my "MessageWin dow" which inherits
Windows.Form the application get stuck..

so What I feel is this is something to do with threading in UI where
trying to update UI from anohter thread. but the MessageBox.Show ()
handles it fine.

so I need to implement one of my own MessageWindow Class works like the
MessageBox.Show () with my customized look.

Can anyone give m a clue to start off with this ...

Thanks in advance...

I've been trying to make this simple script compatible across various browsers. It works for IE 6.0 and NS 7 but doesnt work with Opera (I have version 7.11). This is what is supposed to happen: when the user clicks a button in the main window, a dialog window pops up. In the dialog the user enters a university to search for. When the string is submitted, the dialog then shows all the matches found in the database. The user picks one and...

Hi, I created an activex control (C++), and it uses another COM dll (C++). This COM dll links with a static library that dose some calculation. (both are debug multithreaded dll) I created a C# client having activex control embedded at the very beginning (added in the design window); then, I created another same activex control at the runtime. After the 2nd activex control is created, I start to get errors on the function calls to the...

I have a problem in my application which I believe is due to open handles.. . The symptom that users report is that after they have been using the application for a while, it will randomly just crash with an exception report (I've not got the details of the error, but I'm working on that now!). I'm trying to reproduce the circumstances by simulating a typical batch of user tasks on my pc and monitoring whats happening. I'm guessing it's...

Hi, I've designed a bookmark in Ajax / PHP that I will put soon on sourceforge.net. But I've got an very tricky bug. I try it on some computers with Internet Explorer/Windows, Firefox 1.07/Linux, Firefox 1.5/Linux, Firefox 1.5/Windows and Firefox 1.5/Mac, Safari/Mac. It works perfectly on a lot of configurations but, on some PC with Firefox 1.5/Windows (not all), the Javascript code with XmlHttpRequest

We have a component that has no window. Well, no window in managed code - it uses a DLL which itself uses a window, and this is our problem! When the garbage collector runs and removes our component (created dynamically by, say, a button click, and then not referenced any more), the GC runs in a different thread, which prohibits the DLL to destroy its window, resulting in a GPF when the WndProc of that window is called - the code is gone...

I am trying to write an event-driven application with no main window that runs "forever". It waits on a named event and then displays a window depending on data pased in a memory-mapped file. I started with a standard console application and it all works fine, except that it does not terminate tidily when the user logs off/shuts down. So, I figured I needed a message loop to pick up WM_QUIT. I studied the code in "Waiting in a message loop"...

This was posted before but the message got messed up (all NLs were stripped out for some reason). I have 2 labels that hold the name of different images on my .aspx page. <asp:Label ID="Logo" runat="server"/> <asp:Label ID="CompanyPicture" runat="server"/> I have 2 links that open the windows to preview these images. The previewed images are done on separate html pages that do nothing but display the

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
