in VS03/ASP.NET, I have to edit the web.config to add the connection
string under appSettings.
I am sure that I can do the same is VS05. But I noticed that there is
a connectionStrings section. So I thought that putting the my
connection string under this section makes more sense. and I can
MANUALLY modifiy the web.config.

in VS05 , has anyone switched from the VS Dev Svr to IIS and received a
dialog stating not possible to switch to IIS because the Windows Firewall is
blocking ports, etc. ? (Unfortunately I didn't save the exact text of the
message.)
I selected the option to unblock these ports, etc. because this was the only
way I knew how to proceed to switch to IIS.
Anyone done the same ? What is the impact ? Side effects ?

I'm working on a VB 05 project. I need to copy the project from my home's
development machine to the PC at work so I can work in both places. I was
able to do this with VS2003 but always got error "... appname.vbproj
application not installed!" with 05' projects.
I have VS05 installed in both machines.
Thanks
Bill

My project is getting a bit large, and I would like to kick-start VS05 into
performing the error-checking compilation at my direction, rather than
waiting for it to self-start. Is there a way to do this?
Thanks,
Dean S

Hello,
VS05 installed fine, hower when I try to install the MSDN, the Setup, after
a few minutes of intense cpu/disk blinking, comes back with this error:
"Setup Not Completed", "The wizard was interrupted before MSDN Library for
Visual Studio 2005 could be completely installed" ... "Click Finish to exit
the wizard and run setup again".
I've tried shutdown/re-start the pc a couple of times but it does the same.
I do have VS6 & MSDN for...

Recently I ran all my Windows Updates which included many for Visual
Studio 2005, & now when I open VS05 (using ASP.NET, VB.NET), all my
toolbox options are grayed out except for the Data options; which
include: DataSet, DataGridView, BindingSource, etc.
This means that Label, Textbox, button, etc are all unavailable. My
"General" option in Toolbox states "There are no useable controls in
this group." I can run apps ok, & if I copy a...

Whenever I am debugging a (desktop) application the Visual Studio 2005
IDE "locks" the design mode of any HTML files that I have open, even
if they are not in the solution being debugged and are completely
unrelated. By "lock" I mean that the Design tab of the HTML page
displays as "Design (locked)". How can I prevent this?
I want to use VS05 as an editor to take notes in HTML format while
debugging but this issue forces me to have 2...

We're using VS05 and today the units tests have stopped working in our
development environment. I'm sure that it is something really silly and
simple but I'll be darned if I can figure out what it is.
Here's a failure example: I created a simple little C# program called Test1.
I added a new class that has a public method Sum, which does the brilliant
function of adding two numbers together and returning the result.
I added a unit test...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
