If a class inherits from another class, say Form inherits from control, then
I can assign the Form to a variable of type Control without needing an
explicit conversion, eg
Form1 f = new Form1();
Control c = f;
An enum value inherits from int but it doesn't get implicitly converted:
HorizontalAlignment h = HorizontalAlignment.Center;

I'm writing an application with VS.NET 2003 in C# that will use an existing
class library written in VB.NET, which contains a public enum in a public
module, see below. The CheckStringLength method is available when I use the
class library, but the enum is not.
I've tried to create a new VB.NET class library with the exact same code as
below, and from that one I can access the enum.

enum without having to redefine it and I want to be able to pass them

I'm working with C# and I'm setting up some ENUM's I have a data and
Business layer. I'm declaring a common enum for the Data Layer. The UI
layer references the Bus layer and the bus layer references the Data layer,
but I would like to have the enum exposed to all three. Is there a way to
trickle down that enum (Like class inheritance exposes classes) so that it
can be accessed from the Business layer and UI layers? My UI layer doesn't...

I can pass in a string to a Web User Control, but I haven't been successful
passing in an enum. I declared my enum as a public variable in my Web User
Control itself.

Hi All,
In the absence of any predefined standards, I was wondering how to name and
implement my enum in a class.
My dilema is:
When I (for example) have an integer property in my class I'll use a class
level variable called mintCount and the property sub accepts a variable
called intCount and then assigns mintCount = intCount.

So I was needing some extra power from my enums and implemented the
typesafe enum pattern.
And it got me to thinking... why should I EVER use standard enums?
There's now a nice little code snippet that I wrote today that gives me
an instant implementation of the pattern. I could easily just always
use such an implementation instead of a standard enum, so I wanted to
know what you experts all thought.
Is there a case for standard enums?

I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
