Windows hooking and subcalssing in C# / VB.Net (in general .Net)?

I'm about to start climbing the .Net learning curve.
Would like to start by reproducing a little application that I already have up
and running using an MS Access front end. It manages information for class
reunions. Seems to have the basics: parent/child records, "Find"
functionality, Add/Change/Delete functionality....
However I don't want to develop just a client/server app shoehorned into .Net.
Instead, I'd like to go the...

What class / method should I be using to get the full path to
an embedded resource ? In my case I have an .xml file
that my app uses, it is set as embedded resource, and
I have a control that needs to load it, but I do not want to hard
code the path since that may change for different installs.
i.e. GetPathForResourceOfName ( myResourceFileName )
thanks,
JIM

Hi,
I have a C# .NET application with lots of strings added through the
visual designer (thus stored in the form's .resx file) specifying the
application's company name and product name .
What I want to do is change all of these instances to tags, for example
<COMPANY_NAME> or <PRODUCT_NAME> and then dynamically replace these
tags when the application runs with a company name/product name etc of
my choosing.

Hi! I am designing a database driven application. The main purpose of this
application is to print signs and label with plant (botanical) information
and a picture of the plant. This is mainly intended for the nurseries. Our
application comes with 3500+ full plants description and hi-res picture for
each one, while the end user can add his own into the db. However, my boss
don't want the end user to have directly access to the picture (the...

Apropos recent threads about GUI editors, coming from a Win32/WTL C++
background, I actually like the idea of being able to (easily) create GUIs
programmatically.
But I still see a lot of the same tedium: hooking up events to handlers, and
getting data into and out of dialogs. In C++, this is generally handled
through code generation and/or macros, but IMO these are brittle and ugly.
So my question: Is there a Pythonic way to make...

Hi,
Has anyone had any experience with hooking messages in other
application windows (like SPY++). I want to listen for WM_MOVE
messages, but can only seem to find examples of Keyboard and Mouse
hooks.
Please (and thankyou),
James Randle.

My application appears to have a recourse leak. When the user starts
a background process, the handle count in Process Explorer (PE) goes
up by about 10, sometime 1 or 2 more, sometimes 1 or 2 less. When the
task is completed, there are somewhere between 4 and 7 handles still
open.
My process is loading images and shrinking them down. I went through
all the code and found some objects that implement the IDisposable
interface which I...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
