Intermittent error loading XML file machine.config

Hi,

I've got a win form app that takes an arbitrary file from the local drive,
calls a webservice function, passing the file's byte array plus an number of
other params. About half the time I get the following error:

Error loading XML file
c:\winnt\micros oft.net\framewo rk\v1.14322\Con fig\machine.con fig Request for
the permission of type
System.Security .Permissions.St rongNameIdentit yPermission, mscorlib,
Version=1.0.500 0.0, Culture=neutral , PublicKeyToken= b77a5561934e089 failed.
(c:\winnt\micro soft.net\framew ork\v1.14322\Co nfig\machine.co nfig)

Does anyone know what might cause this? It's started happening on my
machine when I added some simple threading (to show an animated gif on a
"please wait" form). The error seems to occur most often on small files
(some sort of timing / file lock problem?) My colleague's machine seems
unaffected when the app is copied and run from their local hard drive.

Any help would be most gratefully received!

Cheers,
Nic

I have a Dot Net project that references a COM DLL called "Crypto.dll," which is registered on my machine. I added the reference via the "Add Reference" dialog in Visual Studio Dot Net, and I am successfully accessing methods in this DLL in some of my classes. "Interop.CRYPTOLib" is the name of the interop VS.NET created for me when I added the reference. Frequently, when I try to run my application, I get the error that follows.

I have seen the posts on various places on the internet about .NET framework mismatch issues and I don't think that is my problem. ; ) When I execute the following C++.NET code: String *ipAddress = S""; IDictionary *server_config = dynamic_cast<IDictionary*>(ConfigurationSettings::GetConfig("ServerAddress") ); ipAddress = dynamic_cast<String*>(server_config->get_Item(S"IP"));

I have an application where I added a comment as the first line of my Config file, as I found out I can't do this. However, an entry was made in the event log about the error (Source = .net Runtime): The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( .NET Runtime ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the...

Hi, I have a problem where my ASP.NET application occasionally generates a MissingFieldException exception. This unexpectedly happened on my development box, and so I was able to extract some information from the debugger: The field that is "missing" is called 'logger'. Here's it's description taken from ildasm.exe: ..field public static class log4net.ILog logger

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
