I cannot figure out the configuration and Preview screensaver.

I've written up this neat screensaver, but it has a few bits of ugliness to
it ...

1. I both know how to get the handle for a preview and the handle for the
window to display a settings dialog box.

I am told to set the settings and preview window as a child of the preview
or settings windows given a handle to the parent window either the preview or
settings.

1. I cannot set either window as a child of the parent window. No matter
what I do, and I've spent two days on this - 15 hours each day on this to NO
avail. All I get is told by the compiler what I CAN'T do instead of HOW to do
it.

2. Other screensavers are able to resize the parent settings window to fit
the size of their child settings window, but not me. Nooo. I can get the
child screen to a bit bigger than the parent window, but not the other way
around.

3. I cannot determine the bounds height and width of the parent window in XY
coordinates.

I would love to be able to see my program work like all the professional
screensavers I see, instead of looking like a KLUDGE when it isn't! That
blank preview square looks so horribly ugly!!

I've looked at so many code examples till my eyes are bleeding, but either
the process is spread accross so many classes instead of one place, that I
get lost in the C# Labyrinth of classes - I feel like the deaf man who when
he tried to read even a simple newspaper, he said he would find a word he did
not know, and would look it up, to find that the definitions contained words
he did not understand, so he'd look up those, till he was buried deep and
would forget.

The other examples, simply SKIP over, not offering the option to configure.

So, now I've given up. I was so thrilled when I wrote this over the period
of weeks, transforming shoddy code into something that made sense, guessing
at the meaning of macros that didnt' make sense, and other insanities of
translating a dos C program into a real windows programmer. I ran the thing,
expecting it to blow a gasket and the thing worked pefectly the FIRST run.
That hasn't happened in years! At least it isn't like about 5 years ago, when
a search for information on Screensavers left me with the feeling that I
might as well be asking the health department for information on how to make
a biologicial weapon!

Well, The message is long, sorry about that, but the request i think is
simple. Once I have the handles stored to IntPtr variables how do I make use
of this handle to resize the resize parent window to fit the config box so I
can place it over the settings window, and how do I determine the dimensions
in pixels of the preview window and how do I set the child my window to these
parent windows given the Handle?

I know this message makes sound like a beginner, yes, to C# I am, but I'm
just rusty with the C++. Help!! And thanks!!

Hello everyone, does anyone know a way to stop the screensaver under linux from starting up while a certain process is running? I need this because I experience a memory leak while recording wav-files every time the screensaver starts. It is a Tkinter application, btw. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks

I have been given an unusual task to create a Windows Service to do something periodically to make the screensaver timer reset. We have a general policy of locking computers automatically after 10 minutes of inactivity. This windows service would be used on some machines to prevent the lock from occurring every 10 minutes. I have tried to reposition the mouse pointer with the Cursor class in a service, but it does not work -- always...

Does anyone know what the command line argumentto launch a screensaver's options/configuration dialog is on Windows XP Pro? From most of the example source code I can find on the web, it would seem to be '/c' but that does not seem to work for the screensaver I have written. I've tested my code and if '/c' is the first argument then the options dialog is launched but Windows XP does not seem to be supplying the '/c' argument when I...

I have been trying to build a screensaver that will connect to a database and display specific data depending on the user that is logged in. I have managed to get a simple data access screensaver to work, however, i can't get the application to work with some prebuilt assemblies i have. Also, when the screensaver is running under the windows screensaver settings it also will not access the config file. Any pointers would be greatly...

I am creatign a screen saver and am having a problem with showing the screensaver form in the preview pane. The code works correctly in the the form does display within the preview window. I created a simple for for testing called Preview that only had a label on it and the text "This is a Test" is hardcoded. By doing this I now that it is not other code I have written that is causing this. The problems I am having are: 1) The Preview form...

Hi all, Need i simple example on how print/preview data from a database. I already have some code but I am lost because the preview does not create multiple pages and only shows the first page and the printing goes over the margins of the page. My problem is that I cannot figure out how to control new page when page is getting full. Another problem is that I would like to have a common place to set headers and footers to be printed...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
