Compare Validator does not fire

I am using a compare validator with the following code:

private void CheckRom()
{
if (romCheck.Check ed == true && romFromText.Tex t != null &&
romToText.Text != null)
{
romCompare.Enab led = true;
romCompare.Cont rolToCompare = romFromText.Tex t;
romCompare.Cont rolToValidate = romToText.Text;
if (int.Parse(romT oText.Text) < int.Parse(romFr omText.Text))
{
romCompare.Erro rMessage = "The Tp amount must be greater than the From
amount!";
}
romCompare.Visi ble = true;
}

However, when running the program. it goes through the code and just goes
on to the next step without showing the validator or stopping until the
problem is corrected. What am I doing wrong?
