Timeout on DataAdapter.Fil l

I have a datatable i am filling with database data using
the SqlDataAdapter. This works fine using the test
database. When i run it on the production database, it
will sometimes work but sometimes i get the error:

"Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to
completion of the operation or the server is not
responding."

I have looked around online and tried increasing the
SqlCommand.Comm andTimeout to 300, and i've tried adding
Connect Timeout=30 to the connection string.

i'm really not sure what i can do. Its currently taking
around 5 mins to fill a datatable, even when it doesnt
time out.

Any ideas anyone?

thank you,

Polly

Hi, I created a DataAdapter, connection object and dataset generated from DataAdapter by dragging DataAdapter compenent to win form. Now in the code behind I want to use that DataAdapter. I go to use the dataset that was generated from DataAdapter and I get an Object ref error. So do I have to go through the steps in code behind to reinitate the SqlDataAdapter and DataSet that I generated on the form? If so whats the purpose of having...

Group, I have a Web application sitting on a staging server that is using SQL Server 2000 as its data store, and I can run the application flawlessly. Now, when I copy the project to my localhost and run the application, using the same SQL Server, I keep on receiving a SQLException Timeout expired. Any ideas how I can remedy this?

I have seen a lot of posts mentioning to set the commandtimeout property, but how do you do that on an SQLAdapter? I setting a connection timeout on the SQL Connector, but that didn't help. Here is my code.. Can anyone help???? BTW: I am returning about 1

Hi, I thought I had this sorted this morning but it is still a problem. My application has a DataAccess Class. When it starts, it: Connects to a DB (OLE DB) If it connects it uses an OleDbCommand with an SQL String and the connection it has a DataAdapter with the command then it fills the DataSet's DataTable with the streamed data.

I keep getting a concurrency exception the second time I make a change and attempt to update a dataadapter. It appears this is by design, so there must be something I can do to avoid it. Example: I have a dataadapter that contains one table with one row. I change the value of the 'FisrtName' column in that row from Jack to John. I call ..update on the dataadapter it goes through fine. Now I change that same column in that same row...

If I add the code for user to download the file (e.g. if(File.Exists(FILE_NAME)){......}), the ASP.NET will give the following timeout error: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. It seems that the download file code is executing before letting the previous code to finish. Even the message print code (message.Text="...";) is not executed.

I have a bit of "login authentication" code that in the event of a server error, connection error, etc will take a Looooooong time to timeout. I wanted to redesign it to call the DAL method in a separate thread (easy enough) w/ a callback for when it's done. The area I'm having trouble with is once I determine the timeout period has elapsed, how do I kill the thread safely? I asked a threading question here awhile ago and some kind...

Hi all I have a timout problem when I call "DataAdapter.Fill". When I debug, I see that all timeout settings are correct, ConnectionTimeout is 0 and also CommandTimeout is 0. But when I call the fill method I get: "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding."} System.Exception {System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException}

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
