I have a developer here with a website running with only "Windows Integrated Authentication" set on a Windows 2000 member server that uses GetObject to get a user's group membership in the domain. This is the code she's using: set adsUser = getobject("WinNT://" & strUsername) for each group in adsUser.groups GrpList = GrpList & lcase(trim(group.name)) & ";" next

Our company computers were recently upgraded to Windows XP with Microsoft Office 2003. We have 3 different Access Databases (in different directories on our network) which all require the user to be part of a "Workgroup". It appears that Access 2003 includes some added security features that prevent the user from accessing a database unless you join the workgroup corresponding to the database. This works fine, unless you need to join...

I have a service that will receive OnStart from a remote computer with passed arguments. One of the arguments is the path of a program to launch. Note: The service is setup to Log On as Local System account with Desktop interaction, otherwise the launched app starts in a twilight zone windows space and the user can't interact. The service works great if i'm launching a program on the local hard drive, or a mapped drive WHEN PCs ARE ON THE...

When you go to "MyComputer" and get properties and select "Computer Name", you get the Domain or Workgroup a computer belongs to. I have looked thru MSDN library, the Internet, the Registry and in all files on my computer and cannot find how to retrieve this information in VB.Net 2005. This information is essential for our system implementation. I have tried: NetworkInformation.IPGlobalProperties.GetIPGlobalProperties but it does not...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
