Hi,
Any suggestions on best practices on implementing batch process
functionality in a web app?
The idea is to run a batch of order processing at night when the site load
is low.
I would like to contain the logic within the web application for deployment
reasons..
An event has to be fired at a specific time or other threeshold.
The batch would probably need to be run in async/low priority thread(s) from
the threadpool.

Oscar,
It can be done, however it will not be very good solution to your
problem. Why do not you build a Windows Service and deploy it along
with the Web Application?
Regards,
Philip.
I agree. The service solution is the best overall design choice.
But..if for some reason it is not viable in this context.
How would one solve the problem in an ASP.NET web application.

Oscar,
You need to use the timer component on a web page and activate it
somehow, someone got to request the page and activate the timer when is
loaded...and maybe the page must be always loaded (not just load it and
then close it) in order to work...

We want to search our file system regularly for certain file types and
possibly for text contained in the files.
We essentially need a tool that provides the primary functionality of the
Window Search facility that can be run in batch from a "Scheduled Task". We
have seen many great tools, but all run from a UI, not from batch.
And if source is available that is great.
Please advise,

I remember that I used to set up utility batch files, and create Windows
shortcuts to them that would ask the user for parameters to supply to the
batch files. From what I can tell, this functionality simply doesn't exist
anymore in Windows 2000 or above. I did find a work-around to this that I
thought y'all might want to know about.
There are a number of new fetures in batch files available on Windows 2000
including an extended syntax...

I have a web service that needs to create a batch file and call it (since
there are no APIs for the functionality I am looking for). I am using the
Process and ProcessStartInfo objects. When I try to call the batch file, it
just returns with a return code of 1. When I call cmd.exe, and pass the
batch file as a parameter it hangs. After much frustration and aggrevation,
I found that CMD IS in fact running, but it is running under the context...

I have a some CPU intensive C#, .NET, MS SQL (with stored procedures) code
to run. I am using a IE to run it now but IE loses the thread after a
while - however the task does complete in the background. I want to run it
directly on server, like a BATCH job (DOS) or CRON job (UNIX).
I dont have root access to the server, but it is my own dedicated server, so
I can request Admin to run jobs, I suppose.
Is there a way to run C# code in...

I want to create a small look up program that searches for a certain
date and the batch number that is represented by that day. For instance
if i wanted to find the batch for 20/08/05 i would choose that date and
then the program would tell me that it was batch 125. The batch number
are incremented by 1 everyday apart from SUNDAYS.
Is there an easy way that I can do this??? Here are some demo batch
numbers to show it all works...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
