What makes the icon appear in the toolbox for a new control?

I created a control and added to my toolbox and it worked fine including the controls icon until I decided to merge the
project that contains the control into an existing project. I have included the Toolbox statements in the code, it is an
embedded resource and the bmp location is set right. I have recompiled the control but even though the control appears
in the toolbox the icon stubbornly refuses to appear. I just get the default cog.

Does anyone have any ideas what exactly it is that causes the icon to appear? It is very frustrating.

Thanks, steve

Hello, I have an application with a main class subclassing the System.Windows.Form and i changed the Icon setting for the application to point to a different icon file. Now, when my application runs, the icon appearing in the upper left hand side of the window frame is the default one and not the one i selected. I went back and checked after compilation and the properties for the form indicate the new icon name i designated but the...

In my VB.Net in the Toolbox I have noticed two things: (1) All the controls like Button, TextBox, MainMenu, Checkbox etc. have the same icon in the Toolbox. (That icon is dimmed and is of TreeView control). (2) I wanted to insert ContextMenu control icon. But I can't find that in my Windows Form (Toolbox). However there is MainMenu Control.

hey all, i'm trying to add an image to my custom control so that it looks unique in my toolbox. i saw in a webcast that all you had to do was add the image to the project and change the Build Action property to Embedded Resource. i did that, recompiled it. but when i delete the old item from the toolbox and add the new dll it still shows the default icon. does the image need to be a certain size or something, i'm at a loss.

I have a class inherited from component with a specialized designer. I would like to know how I can customize the icon that appears next to my class name in the solution explorer. Right now, the only icon that will appear is the Component icon which is the same for any class inherited from Component. For example, I would like to know how Visual Studio knows to change the icon in the solution explorer when a class inherits from...

Hi, I have create an inherited control (a TextBox which doesn't accept numbers) and have added it to my toolbox. Can anyone give pointers on how to set the Text to "" when an instance of this control is dropped onto a Windows form? I have set the Text to "" in the constructor for the control but it still shows NoNumbers1, NoNumbers2, etc.

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
