Calling RegAsm on a DLL and adding it to the Assembly Cache.

Hello, I have written a shell extension for windows to provide
additional context menus, however I am having a bit of trouble making
the install easier on the user.

Currently, the user must browse to their
C:\Windows\Micr osoft.NET\Frame work\etc... in command prompt to reach
the folder which contains RegAsm, and then call RegAsm passing the
path to the DLL. Then, the user must add the DLL to the Assembly
Cache by going to Control Panel -> Admin Tools -> .NET
Confirguration.

I would like to automate this in an executable, or perhaps make it
easier in any way.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!

You can get programmatic RegAsm functionality with the
System.Runtime. InteropServices .RegistrationSe rvices class.

The fusion APIs can be used to install assemblies in the GAC. See

Hi All, Is it possible to export a c# method into a dll in such a way that your "normal" C application can then call this method? To be clear: I am not asking how to use "DllImport" or PInvoke. My question is the other way around. Regards Pieter Breed

Fairly simple question !!! The title says it all. But here is a further description - I have a software that expects a COM DLL. Due to certain requirements we have to create a .NET assembly instead. I know we can do RegAsm, but the way we have to "load" this assembly into another program is that ... the other program calls DllRegisterServer on it directly - (regsvr32 equivalent).

Hey Guys, TlbExp.exe and Regasm.exe tools aid us in exporting assembly information to a type library so that non .Net Applications or unmanaged code use this type library information to call .Net assembly. Just like tlbimp which works on the entire COM Component (check out yesterdays article) tlbexp also works on the entire assembly. The entire assembly is converted at the same time. You cannot use it to

I have an COM server in an assembly. When it is deployed on a target computer it needs to be registred with RegAsm. I created a custom action in the deploy project, starting RegAsm with the assembly DLL as command argument. It all works as expected. To make RegAsm available I installed it from the framework bin directory to the componentes application folder on the target machine. An custom action can only refer executables in application...

hi there, i am trying to use a .NET assembly from a Cscript.exe .vbs (i.e. from COM) and could not get my .vbs to use my .net dll (gives a 'file not found error') unless i used the /codebase parameter when registering .net dll with regasm. from what i read,a simple regasm dllname.dll and putting the dll and cscript.exe in the same folder should be sufficient. /codebase should not be required.

I have a C# logging assembly with a static constructor and methods that is called from another C# Assembly that is used as a COM interface for a VB6 Application. Ideally I need to build a file name based on the name of the VB6 application. A second choice would be a file name based on the # COM interface assembly. I have tried calling Assembly.GetCallingAssembly() but this fails when I use the VB6 client. Is there a way to get this...

I am unclear about what all the requirements are to call a simple vb.net application, installed in the GAC, from COM (such as writing vba in Word to call the dotnet dll). I believe I have installed the dll in the GAC. It is in there and has a public token. I did not create a key-value pair. I believe it is strong named, as it shows up in the GAC. How do I browse the objects of it? I would like to call it late bound, but the errors I...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
