Hi !
I'm wondering about the use of the 'using' statement.
In a procedure, should i declare all instance variables in a using
clause ?
In the below code, what would happen if MyFont & MyFont2 would be
declared in the body of the Main() and not inside the using (even not
referenced in the using) ? Would be there something to call to dispose
them ?

Hi,
Lately i've been (and still am) fixing some memory leaks problems in the project i just took over
when i got this new job. Among the other issues i've noticed that for localy created objects it
makes difference to explicitly put them to null after working with them is done - it somehow makes
the GC collect them sooner, like here:
void SomeFunc()
{
MyClass c = new MyClass();

Hi,
I was wondering, if there is something similar in VB.NET like the using
statement in C#. What it does is to automatically call Dispose on the
object decrared with in the statement when the block exits.
using (MyBoj)
{
}// MyObj.Dispose is called

Hi!
I'm developing the middletiers of an ASP.NET application in VB.NET. I've got
a business logic layer in which I would like to perform auditing to a
database. Instead of making an auditing call in every method of my classes,
would it be a workable way to implement IDisposable in the base class to all
the BLL-classes and then in the Dispose method to do the audit call? Do I
then have to make sure that all uses of the BLL-classes end...

Are these two equivalent? Is one better than the other? I tend to go with #1
but started wondering....
Thanks,
1:
using (SqlConnection cn = new SqlConnection(DataConnection))
using (SqlCommand cm = new SqlCommand("ItemCount", cn)) {
cm.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;

Understanding and Using Exceptions
(this is a really long post...only read it if you (a) don't know what
try/catch is OR (b) actually write catch(Exception ex) or catch{ })
The first thing I look for when evaluating someone's code is a
try/catch block. While it isn't a perfect indicator, exception handling
is one of the few things that quickly speak about the quality of code.
Within seconds you might discover that the code author...

I'm migrating from VB6 and have a question about using 'Using' and the
best way to use it.
Here is a example of a small bit of code:
dbConx("open")
Using CN
Dim CMD As New OleDbCommand(sSQL, CN)
Dim DR As OleDbDataReader = CMD.ExecuteReader()

I am porting stuff from MEC++ syntax to the new C++/CLI syntax. Something
that we did in the old syntax that proved to be very valuable was to make
sure that the finalizer would purposefully generate an assertion failure
for unoptimized, debug builds. We did this to find and fix cases where we
were relying upon finalization rather than pro-active Dispose() calls.
For classes that introduced IDisposable() into the class hierarchy...

Hello!
I'm using .NET 2005 (C#) and I've come across using statement. It seems ok,
I was just wondering one thing. What if I returned object inside using
statement using RETURN directive. Is returned object valid or not?
For example:
public FileStream Func1()

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
