Store the combobox data in a global dataset and refresh it on application idle time.

Hey guys,

I have about 150 forms using the ComboBoxes. There is at least one
combobox in every form. I am filling the comboboxes on FormLoad of
every form.

Eg.,
Fill Staff table on form load of 'Invoice Form'.
Bind it to the combobox, select the appropriate staff id.

InvStfComboBox, most of the ComboBoxes have the same datatable bound to
them 'Staff', 'StfId', 'StfName'.

Question:

What I want to do is, populte tables for these comboboxes on application
startup,

populate Staff, Rolodex, Contacts, and store 'em up in a dataset and
grab from this dataset rather than filling the dataset on each form
load.

Also, I want to refresh these tables on application idle time.

How can I do this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

HyperX.

Below is my code for a combobox. Basically, I have 2 comboboxes. 1 box is the application selection and the other retrieves data from the dataset (SQL Server) to populate the drop down in the otehr box. I want to make a selection in the app combobox, update the second box and when I select a new app, it should remove all items in teh 2nd combobox and refresh the list with only the selected app. With this code it appears the binding is...

Hi, I have a combobox and datagrid in a form. When an Item is selected from a combobox, a method is called, which will make selection from a database according selected item and populate datagrid. I used comboBoxLastName_SelectedValueChanged handler, but this handler is called for every Item when combobox is initialized at the start. It means there is made database access for every item, which is not needed and slows down application.

When a button is clicked, a date is inserted or added into a combo box like this : ComboBox.Items.Add(string) or ComboBox.Items.Insert(0,string); Either way, the new string does not show up in the ComboBox. I get no errors or problems, it just will not work. At load time I am retrieving dates from an Oracle database and adding them to the ComboBox with out any problems. However, once the application is up and running I cannot add to the...

This is a repost of an item that I still cannot resolve. I have 3 combo boxes. The first leads to the second to the third. When I have selected a value in the second box, the third box shows the available information based on the second combo box selection. But if I change my mind and select a different item in the second box, after the third box has been populated, the third box still retains the information that was previously...

I have a Web Server running IIS 5 or 6 on Windows 2K and Windows 2003 Server that is experiencing strange shutdown problems. We are using ASP.NET v1.1 and our application is written in VB.NET Here's the scenario: 1. .NET Windows Client on a remote machine makes a web service call to update tables on a Web Server running SQL Server 2000. 2. The Update is updating about 1000 - 3000 records doing simple update statements like "Update...

Hi I have a declared a static DataSet object SOBJ in Global.asax.I also have a localy defined DataSet LSOBJ in Global.asax which I am storing in Application State. Is there any technical differences in the way both the objects are handled by IIS. Are both objects stored in different memory spaces? I can access both the objects in my web page. I will be grateful if some one can help me understand the difference.

I'm caching a dataset in an asp.net session variable to hold a user's data. one data item I need to store is an image the user uploaded. My problem is that I don't know how to get the image into the dataset because I don't know what datatype to set the dataset column and then set this image to. I saw an example where someone defended a datatable in the global class and defined the column as an object, however, when I define a strongly...

Hi, I have an application that has a "Data Access Class" and "User Interface Class". It is for receiving Purchase Order data from one system and pushing processed transactions to another system. The system generally works quite well. Currently the User interface calls for a refresh of data every 15 minutes (selectable) and the Data Access Class connects to the DB and retrieves the

I have a combobox that is contained within a user control. Whilst the application is running, I'm attaching the combobox to a new dataset. The problem I'm getting is that the combobox doesn't appear to reflect the new dataset. The same code seems to work fine if the combobox is set to the dataset on initialisation. What have I done wrong? The code in full that I'm using to update the dataset and attach to the combobox is as follows...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
